After it was demonstrated recently to me by good buddy Antonio(who rescued me when i ran out of gas a mile from his house (old-timer's disease!), I would not recommend any spout,
(the spouts block the air ingress tube in the can mouth. This tube normally promotes smooth, gurgle-free pouring. When the Spout blocks it, you get a very slow, gurgly flow. - ed.)
but get one of those great jiggler tubes recently talked about on the list (available from Rover Accessories and many stores like Pep boys). Zero stress and you can put the can on the roof or the bed of the truck while it is filling the tank!

Gotta love it!

The rubber seals do age and if old and cracked can leak. With fresh seals they will not leak. New seals cost a couple of bucks or so and can be purchased through, among other places, Rovers North.

Hi Y'all,
The advice I received before doing my Honduras trip worked well for me.

1. Filter the gas before putting it into the tank. I used a funnel with a large mouth that was big enough to insert a reusable plastic coffee filter into it.

2. Add 1/2 pint isopropyl alcohol to at least every other tank full. This will take up any water that is present. It is sold as a fuel additive and is very cheep at Walmart.

3. There will be times when you cannot get the octane fuel that you want, and others when you suspect the ratings given. At those times add octane boost. Read the labels carefully, don't go by price, the boosters will vary dramatically. I used one that I bought from Walmart, it came in a silver aluminium bottle.

Using these simple procedures I had no fuel problems on the 5000 mile trip. A case of each of the additives was more than enough, in fact I still have some left. I did note that Mexico has only one brand of gas, Government owned, and that there are many stations in the boonies that only have one octane available, Piss Poor as Chris would say.

Kind Regards Sam Simpson.
