I am thinking about purchasing a D90, the owner states that when the vehicles slows down to below 5 MPH a sound eminates from the front differential/axle area. When power is added the sound goes away. There is also no sound above 5 MPH, both accelerating and slowing. The owner states that the vehicle runs great other than the sound. What might be the problem?

There are several guys on here that are from So Cal... post some details about the truck, they probably know the past owner and/or owners and the truck.

They may be able to inspect it with you.

Have you driven any other ones? I think they all have their little noises and quirks. They were once descirbed to me as tractors with seatbelts (i.e. no soundproofing, insulation, etc.) You're going to hear just about everything and it will freak you out at first.

Info that would be helpful:

Lift? Tires? Any drivetrain modifications? How loud is it? Is it a grinding noise? Ticking noise? Checked the fluid in the front diff? Is it a dealer? Does he know what he's talking about? (Sounds have a strange way of tricking you about where they're coming from)

These are a cult vehicle (here comes the replies) and most people will bend over backwards to help.
