intake manifold leaking

I recently had my 94 d-90 in the shop. they said my intake manifold was leaking and coolant was coming out. they quoted me $500 ($100 parts, $400 labor).

Is this something I need to take care of ASAP? will this lead to other problems if I don't get it fixed right away? Thanks.

Do it now!!!! Coolant could be getting into your cylinders and into your oil If its coming out it could very well be going in too.

Do you have any coolant in your crankcase oil? Where is it leaking, can you see it pooling anywhere? I have suspicion about a similar leak. I have a touch of oil on the front/timing cover plate at the base of the dist. I believe it is that short little 90 degree heater hose that comes out of the back of the pump. It is hard to get to to replace.

$100 for parts is kinda pricey. I just bought a gasket at Brit Pac for $20 and some change. I would take it somwhere other than the dealer or do it yourself.

Well, I ended up taking it to a small reputable shop near my work, instead of the britsh specialty repair shop. They pressure tested the system and found no coolant leak. they said the only thing they could find leaking was oil--from the valve covers and the valley pan (which happens to be under the intake manifold). So they are going to do the valley pan gasket, intake manifold gasket and valve covers all for $120 less than the other place. Hopefully I won't see any more leaks...anywhere.
