Guess the part

I just did some major dissambly on my defender, it was pretty much uneventful except this one piece, shown below, along with some of the carnage it caused... looks like i'll be going back to sears this week to do a tool exchange!

note the snap-on t40 is now permanetly attached to the previously hex head.
surprisingly the hex didn't strip out, but after breaking three allen keys i had to try something else out, queue airpowered hammer tools.

mmm, parking brake drum retaining screw. hate 'emnope, although i had a problem with that when i replaced the rear output shaft of my transfercase. I wound up drilling it out.

To be honest i don't think i've ever succesfully removed a phillips head retaining screw for any brake parts. My acura had the same problem...

Of course i never replace the retaining screw they make me so mad :angry

nope, the bolt is about 24 millimeters long.

Could it be one of two bolts on the left front of the engine, behind the power steering pump/alternator, that bolt into the head? I believe they mount the lifting eye. It should be hidden by the alternator mount. How'd I do?

I couldn't believe it didn't strip, and managed to destroy the allen wrench instead, it's usually the other way around... I'm still trying to figure out how to get my tool out of it, and what to replace it with.

To get you tool back, you need to tighten the bolt into somthing. once its tight your tool can come loose. Usually you can then untighten the bolt again and the tool wont get stuck. The other option is to put the bolt in a vice and then turn the tool clockwise.

-Jeffwe had to used a air hammering tool to get the torx bit in there, we tried to pull it apart, but had no success, i'll probably just put it in my "broken things that i keep for sentimental value pile"

FWIW, those bolts are always a PITA. I have found that if you take out every other bolt in the bracket except that one and use a hex socket and apply modest force counterclockwise while tapping the lift eye with a hammer in a counterclockwise direction, the whole assembly will rotate a little bit and the bolt will come loose.
