My new under seat Drawer!

I thought you guys might get a kick out of this. I have had open space under the passenger seat ever sence I pulled my fuel tank. I have been wondering what to do with it. I found this steel drawer online. they make them for music racks. 16 guage steel. The demensions were pretty much perfect. So I bought a dented one. $45 with shipping. Had to fix the drawer, but not too difficult.

Cutting the hole was the hardest part, I actually remembered to take pictures of the open hole, but they are too large and I am too lazy to resize them. The hole actually came out perfect. Then it was just a test fitment of the drawer, and cutting and welding in the angle iron for the frame. Came out really slick. My welds on this were so so. Tight quarters under there. The drawer is 19in x 17in x 7in. It holds a lot.

Total weight is 16lb.

That right there is something I now _have_ to do to mine. Makes it a so much more useful, and lockable, storage spot.

But, I ended up finding a dented one that was cheaper. They dent in shipping pretty easily because the ears on the front where the bolts go are fragile. You want the 4 space model. It was a tight fit, it clears the drum brake by about .5in. If I did it again, I would have taken the time to weld up tabs in the back and mounted it with bolts instead of welding it directly to the angle iron in case I have to take it out for whatever reason. I will redo that if I need to remove it. Over all I am very happy with it. I am tempted to move my battery to the engine compartment where my heater core is and do the same thing under the drivers side. But, I am not sure what I would do with all that storage.

hahaha... i could think of at least a few things i could do with more storage, this is next on my list of projects i think, except i'll probably build the drawers and use some mil-spec drawer sliders... I really do want to learn to weld aliminum

I have storage under the rear seat and 4 boxes mounted on the wheel wells, along with a tuffy center box. I also built a cooler rack and have everything organized pretty compactly in the rear. If I put another one of these in there I am not sure I would have enough stuff to fill it up. Speaking of space saving, I just mounted my spare drive shaft. Ended up fitting pretty well there. I snapped some pics.

On the drawer building, I thought of trying this, but it is very difficult. You pretty much have to have the squares punched for you to be perfect enough, and even then, compared to a form bent box, it won't look that good. Unless you are a really good fabber. But give it a shot. It was beyond my abilities.

bumpI've got mill spec sliders(their specs are nuts, the pair can hold up 150 pounds through a 30 g shock test!) and alluminum, but i'm working hard on trying to relocate the family to someplace with mountians first! stupid housing market is really putting a kink in that plan...

Buck, I don't think there is much that's beyond your fabrication abilities. Very cool drawer, would have to galvanize that here in the east.
