Hello all,
I am looking to find a factory CD Changer for my 97 90 ST....i need to get this ASAP. Trying to get my 90 like i want it before I take it to Daytona for Spring Break...I am looking for the whole setup so if anyone out there has one lying around the shop or in their vehicle that they don't use very much let me know....I am looking to spend as little as possible...The factory unit at most places is around 850 dollars for the whole setup....I need a good deal from someone....

Thanks Guys,

Jason

I dont know if they are the same or will work, but I have (3) 6-disc CD changer units. All came from '97 Discoverys and worked when pulled. All 3 include the mag and 1 extra mag. $200 plus shipping costs.

I think the Disco was Pioneer and the Defender was Clarion?

Phil,
Me and you talked about this earlier and chris please throw in your opinion on the situation......I don't really think it matters what brand you buy...Unless you like me you want to keep it all like it comes from the factory....When i had one in my other car me and my dad put on in that came out of my moms Volvo....I assume you can put any changer in any vehicle.....Not exactly sure though so if anyone has info please post...

thanks,

Jason

Hi,
I have a changer that is untestable because the radio is shot, I sent you an email.

Jan

PS, In case anyone was interested, the 97' I picked up on eBay was a pretty good deal for 23k. The truck, with 100K, is in almost mint condition, one dime size sent, one 1" seat rip and a bad radio, the rest including the hardtop and 2 new soft tops in LRNA boxes are MINT. Everything seems to work, came with original manuals, tool, video tape, etc. I just need some warm weather to start "toying" with it. I also need Ct. to send me a title to my 94' so I could sell it !!

Jason, here's the deal. I was in your situation.

The standard audio system is a Clarion 6 disc changer, with a unique cable that connects to the head unit. The cable plugs into the bottom of the head unit (don't even have to take it out if you have crafty fingers).

The mounting is also designed EXACTLY for that original Clarion head unit, with tapped holes into the back metal panel inside the center console to bolt the changer to. For these reasons it is highly recommended to stick with the standard head unit.

You need:

1) the Clarion changer unit itself
2) the two brackets on either side
3) four bolts to secure brackets to back plate
4) four small screws into side of changer
5) the cable
6) and the replacement console shroud/insert
Optional) A good collection of Orbital or Underworld CDs to test it out

This cable is not present if your vehicle was not originally outfitted with a CD changer, so you'll have to get that too. I found mine online by searching for the product ID number of the Clarion head unit, once I got it - was around $35.

I found mine from someone on here for $150, including a swap of the plastic shroud that replaces the tub that is currently in your center console. You need this shroud exchange to be proper as well. Keep this thread alive and you'll find one I'm sure. Have also seen a couple on eBay over last several months. Even get a broken one, Clarion can fix it by mail.

Good luck,
Wicks
