View Full Version : Removing aux heater core

The heater core in the aux heater started to leak. This is the heater in the passenger side seat box. Don't know much about it. I have a 93 NAS 110 and I think this was a dealer installed option or a factory option. Anyway, I see three bolts sticking through the seat box side from underneath where the heater is and removed the nuts, but it is still in there real tight. When I yank on it it doesn't budge. Any idea on how to get it out or what I'm missing?

Never seen it, and I've got a 110! I have to say that it sounds like you're missing something though. In all my experience working on cars I have found that once all the bolts are off it rarely takes much effort to remove something. Usually if I start to pry or pound on something I stop myself and take another look. More often than not I have missed some hidden bolt, clip or screw so I would take another close look.

Finally got a picture. Check the link below. It is a picture of the unit in the seat box. It is tight in the seat box, so there has to be a way to get the whole thing out for maintenance. I was hoping someone has dealt with this issue before I dismantel more than is necessary.

There are three studs coming from the seat box into the transmission tunnel. They have to connect to the heater. I removed the nuts and washers, and it's like I did nothing. I thought this thing was fairly common, but it doesn't look like it.

You could just disconnect the coolant lines and leave it in there for the time being.

That's what I'm doing for now, and it's fine. The extra heater comes in handy, though when the temp is low.

I was actually thinking fo removing mine and replacing it with a Mojave heater from Flex-a-Lite All the wiring is there and so are the coolant lines, in and out. It could be a straight swap and by the specs of the Mojave, a lot more heat. I find my aux heater is a waste of an on off switch.
