GALV. Chassis Swap - Resale?

Hi All,

A few weeks ago I posted a message with some rust issues on my rear cross member. Thanks for all the replies.

When the time does come - if I save up and go the direction of a Galvanized Chassis Swap - I have three questions?

1) Would this Galv. Chassis last for the rest of the trucks life?

2) Once this was done - I assume there would still be rust issues that would come up from time to time, that needed addressing (the corners of the doors, the footwells, etc.). Are these other issues much easier to deal with, and can they be done easilly in pieces over time as needed.............

3) How much to you believe this would effect resale of the truck? A prospective buyer would love a full Galvanized Chassis, right? Right now, I am never planning to sell - and I would be doing it to keep my truck on the road for a long long time...............BUT - This would be a major expense. I would have to justify this NEEDED expense to my wife somehow :)

How do you see the resale of our trucks doing over time. How justified is an expense like this??

The long term value of the Defender will do exactly what other special interest vehicle does, bottom out, stabilize and afterwards price will become directly related to condition.

By any reckoning, a galvanized chassis will last much longer than any of the mechanical components installed onto it. Other metal parts will rust depending on how well you take care of them. Many other parts on the truck can be galvanized also. Certainly things like this can be done piecemeal.

So from a resale value, you'll have a chassis that you can guarantee is perfectly sound. That goes a long way to anyone who cares about the condition of a vehicle.
