Hmm, I thought the head unit was a Pioneer and the CD changer a Clarion. Hmm.

I think the 94's might have went with Pioneer and maybe some of the 95's but the 97 is definitely Clarion. The only reason I'm keen to this is because mine is out of a 97'

Hello all,
I have a quick question for you all...With my stock head unit in my 97 Soft top i just purchased a changer from Jan on this forum in connecticut....Now if she doesn't reply to this first can anyone tell how hard or easy it is to get the head unit out of the console...I would assume its a couple screws or might just pull out with a certain tool...I am very illiterate when it comes to the Audio of any vehicle, so if anyone can help i would appreciate it..
Thanks,

Jason,
First, I don't really mind, but I am a guy and NOT a girl (I have a European name), so just for the record :)
2nd, I shipped the changer today
3rd, to remove the head unit, my stock clarion had pull tabs around the frame, bend them in and slide out the chassis and you should be good....

Since you guys are already talking about audio, i have a problem with the head unit in my 97 d-90. The stock radio was under attack from water and unfortunatly passed away, i now installed a different sound system. The speakers, amps and subs work great but my reciever always turns off when i turn the car off and it is reset everytime i start the car back up. I'm pretty sure i have my wiring hooked up correct but maybe not....does anyone have any wiring diagrams......or suggestiong to what i did wrong, when i by passed the stock amp i only bypassed the speaker wires, are there any 12v wires that go into the amp that i need to bypass as well???

Mike,
I'm no expert but hack around enough, I noticed this on my 94' that I'm going to sell, it has a JVC aftermarket. I figure that the radio is supposed to turn off but there may be another stock Land Rover constant 12 volt wire somewhere. Instead of hunting, I'm going to run a fused wire directly to the battery when I put the new system in my 97'. In fact, I decided to add 3 amps, a sub, and Infinity speakers, so I'm going to rewire the whole audio system !!!

Jan,
A fused wire to the battery sounds like a good idea to me, i'll check once more to see if i can find anymore wires, maybe i'll find something.

Mike and Jan, there should be a yellow wire coming from your new head unit, this should have a fuse in line and run directly to the battery. This is your "memory wire" and it gives the stereo power all the time so it will remember your radio stations, keep time, and allow you to eject CDs with the 90 off.

If you look at the harness connector going to the stock radio I believe the purple wire is the 12V, the yellow/purple is a switched 12V. I'm going from memory when I replaced my unit with that from a RR.
Yes, I went with the dreaded RR/Disco cassette radio. I like the big buttons, it's more than adequate as a radio, weather band is useful. I'm about to splice in a 20GB MP3 player - no more CDs! Plus, I have a 93 RR so I like consistency.
If anyone's looking into MP3 players I went with an iRiver iHP-120. It's 20GB, wired remote, 12 hour battery, line in/out, leather case and only $260 from Amazon with rebate and $30 discount if using their credit card.
I can connect it to the radio's changer input but I'm going with a 8-to-4 splitter just before the amp. that way I don;t have to fiddle with the radio's CD controls first, just turn on the MP3 and the switcher responds automatically. Plus, connecting it here makes it portable with future systems not having a changer.

How "standard" are the connectors between the factory stock Clarion head unit on a '97 D-90, the factory CD changer, and the factory amp?
I ask because I'm interested in upgrading my head unit, but would rather not have to replace the CD changer or amp. I'm looking for a new head unit that allows for direct connection of auxiliary inputs (iPod and XM radio, specifically) with RCA plugs (not a cassette adaptor or FM modulator) AND which I can use my factor CD changer and amp with too. Any thoughts....?
Thanks, Trevor

After looking here

I would think if you got a Clarion head unit with CD changer controls for a DC-625 then you would be all set.

I just installed a new Clarion, the changer cable is different that the stock, so basically I just connected a Sirius PNP into aux inputs of Clarion and it kicks ass, as for a changer, once you go SatRad, it becomes useless, thinking of making the space into extra storage, has anyone done this before?
my system:
Clarion headunit
Infinity Kappa 6 1/2 front
Infinity Kappa 6x9 rear
2 Kenwood 800 watt amps (under the seats)
Sirius Audiovox PNP (way better music than XM and sports too)
Electronic Crossover
Infinity 250w Basslink Sub
The biggest thing here is the speakers, they ARE the critical point, stock LR speakers are worse than worse and if you like tunes (Alt Rock, new wave), I can crank the system while still sounding crystal clear while doing 75 in the highway...

Nice system! How do you like the basslink? how did you mount it?

I picked up a '97 D90 amp from a Land Rover swap meet, but it has no input connector. I'm going to try Fry's in case it's generic. However, even if I get the correct 14pin connector, I'm not sure where the wires plug into.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the amp input/output. Otherwise, would one of you kindly make one based on your stock amp connections? I can PayPal you for your time.
