Howdy,

I took off my roof rack from the 97 90. The one from those is the thick, heavy tubular system with the double ladder thing on the back (as thick as the roll bars but not connected to actual roll cage) and the cross braces supporting the full basket.

The car (look I said it) drives like a car all of a sudden. I can tear around corners and it stays flat until the tires start to slide. It accelerates so fast that I can actually tell it is starting to move faster than it did a few minutes ago.

I see those Hannibal racks are made of aluminium. Anyone know the wight specs? And what this giant pile of soft steel tubes weighs? I guess I could go buy a scale...hmm. The drilled all those freakng holes in the back of the truck to put that set of tubes back there. No way to fix that if I decide to switch. Hmm.

Anyone got info?

Wicks,

I have a Hannibal system on my truck but like you I have no idea what it weighs. I cant imagine it weighs much at all. After I took the rooftop tent the handleing got much better. All that to say I dont no? You all should have a great time up at Frazier, hope I can make it. All the rain should make things interesting.

Kevin, yours is also a lot longer than mine being a 130. I can prolly get the weight from somebody at Hannibal, I'll send them an email.

Matt, wouldn't be able to say right now. Since my truck has holes drillied in it to suit the rack, I feel like I should keep it with the truck. I don't plan on ever selling the truck, but I feel like it needs to have all of its original equipment nearby. Am I nutz?

I have a Hannibal roof rack - Its actually the SEMA prototype (picked it up from Pangaea Expeditions a couple years ago now). I was told it weighed about 85lbs. It felt about that, maybe less.

Here is a pic of my truck with the rack. I did not notice that much of a difference when I put it on. The two things I like best about the rack are the decking (No need to fab-up anything and super sturdy.) and the removable back bar so long flat items can be easily tied down. A must for any long boarder. The only drawback is ascetics. The SD rack just looks "right". Wicks, I have a feeling you know what I mean.

Don't mean to hijack the tread, but I was looking for a rack solution for my 97 ST and have hit a brick wall. I called Hannibal and they have no options for the ST "at this time". The OEM is outrageous in price (but does look cool). So any ideas you could shoot my way would be great.

Britt - the OEM comes up for sale on here from time to time - I'd say just hang tight and you will find one. One guy sold one on here for $1K only a few months ago (the whole setup).
