My 300 tdi defender project is basically finished (time for a new project :) Anyway, I need to order some canvas (Bikini, full top and maybe a tonneau) from Badger and I'm color challenged. The defender is G4 Orange. It already has black bumper, eyebrows and sliders, but would tan or black be a better color. I would like to drive year round, not just at Halloween.

Orange, go with the light grey/silver cloth.. yes indeed no tan..

Do you have the catalog that Badger sends everyone that wants to order from them? It has all the different colors they sell.

I would think black would look the best with that bright G4 orange, but that's just me. As said above the Badger catalog thing has little samples of each color in it...

I have the color patches, but I am red-green color blind. I don't see colors the way normal people do. As a result, I wear a lot of navy and black shirts. Anyway, color coordination has always been a issue for me. I have only seen black canvas on defenders. And when I ask at work, I don't think they fully appreciate the size and color of the vehicle. Just wondering if anything in the Badger colors would look better on the G4 Orange defender than black.

I vote for black. Considering the color is as bold as it is (orange) I don't think you want to have a non-standard soft top color competing with it.
Post some pics of your truck though. I want to see the G4 Orange!!

Call and ask Chris - oops, at Badger -, he's probably seen more color combinations in person than the rest of us.

Chris, I vote for the tan. I think it would tone down the G4 Orange.
Make sure you post some pictures of the truck. I cant wait to see my old truck all new again.

Big vote against tan - it will be the only tan thing on the truck. It would look as bad as all those blue hoods on various series trucks.
If you dont like black, I would recommend the grey. Eric Fournier has a grey badger on his yellow 90 and it looks good. The grey hardtops look fine on yellow 90's, and I suspect that the G4 orange will look similarly good with the grey. I have no problem with the black look, though I admit its a severe contrast and looks like a construction sign.

Go with black, you know it will look good. The others are too risky for a 2G+ top. Or, you could order 2 and take your chance. You can always sell the 2nd one because of wait time alone.

orange and grey is a good combo.. the grey is actually prett light, looks more like silver, it almost perfectly matches the galvanized rails... I wasn't so sure about it on my red 90 but it looks great (anything would I guess compared to my old stocker all dental flossed together:)
GREY/SILVER!!! but yeah black always looks good I guess.
post a pic of your truck and we can photoshop all different color tops on it :)

Here's a jpeg from March. Color may not be perfect as the jpeg was put through an enhancer and I told you I was color blind :)

Damn that's bright. I vote for black, but the army claimed I am color blind in some range of green/brown so my opinion is probably worthless :)

Chris,
I have some sample books with a wide variety of colors that we don't offer for our Defender tops that I will take a look at. I'll get back to you with some choices.

I stuck a black top on it real quick. The perspective isn't quite right, but you get the idea. Haven't found the right picture of a grey one yet. I think a light grey would look nice too though.
My vote is black.

man if my digi cam wasnt broken right now I could get a shot of mine at the right angle and chop it all together..
yeah black will look fine. everyone expects black. everyone has black. black is easy, black is normal..
could've gone conniston green or alpine white with the paint too, nice and easy.
you do what youre gonna do.... everyone here'll say black... im just sayin.. orange stands out, why not go with something different on the top too.. Light grey/silver.

That is the ticket! So it should be a Badger II GK or FDS in Porsche Anth. canvas with dark charcoal tint windows.
Sew it up

After seeing the two photochops with the black and grey (silver) tops, I'd vote for black. But then, what do I know about color. Everything I own is white.

The black top looks sweet. I think it will make everything else black on the vehicle stand out. Please note I have been drinking tonight and might have a different opinion tomorrow! Either way, the orange is bad ass. Good luck and post some pics when its all done.

Thanks guys for your help. I have it narrowed down to a couple choices. And with the jpegs I can print them out and sleep on it a couple days. I'll give Chris a call Monday or Tuesday.

Yeah, either way, your truck is badass in orange and you'll love whatever you choose. These badgers are top notch.
Either way its totally unique! enjoy..

Able to drive it out of the shop today for some photos. Still haven't decided on canvas color, but leaning black. The 90 has Salisbury axles front and rear and 300tdi engine.

I love it. So much that I could repaint. A beachrunner would look fabulous in that color.
