That's right. As several of you on this forum are aware, there is a raffle going on by the African Wildlife Fund that is giving away an awesome Adventure Trailers chaser trailer that includes an Eezi Awn roof top tent. Tickets are free but there is a recommended donation of $20 minimum per ticket. The drawing will be held at the Easter Jeep Safari next year, March 15-23 in Moab, UT.

One of the active project managers of this raffle is on the staff of the Overland Journal. Enough said.

I already have mine, and I'm thinking about getting another. If this raffle grand prize isn't sweet enough, they are also giving away monthly prizes between now and then to ticket holders.

I'm posting this to share within the fellows of this forum thanks to help I've received, and the worthiness (IMHO) of the cause, as it works against me to widen the ticket pool.

Best of luck to any that purchase tickets.

If not me, my hope is that this trailer will be pulled by a Land Rover, and not a Toyota! One Life Live it!!!!!

Nice post Mark and I second the worthiness of the African Conservation Fund. Jonathan and Roseann Hanson are top notch folks and deserve everyone's support in their worthy endeavors abroad!

The bad news for everyone else is that I'm already slated to win the trailer, but I'm sure there are some other good prizes available;-)

Thanks for the post, Mark. One note: It's the African Conservation Fund, not African Wildlife Fund. AWF already has plenty of money!

In order to conform to interstate regulations regarding fund-raising raffles, ACF is required to make a free ticket available to anyone who asks; the $20 is a donation. So far we have had exactly one person ask for a free ticket (undoubtedly not a Land Rover driver!) - the response has been extremely generous.

The first monthly prize was a Hi-Lift Off-Road Base, donated by Expedition Exchange. More to come until the main drawing next spring.

I agree a great deal... but if you win, federal winnings tax is what, 34% regardless of you tax base, though local and state taxes are deductible.
So with $8,000 valued win, you need to pick it up and pay the tax man $3500, plus.

I may just buy a ticket and donate the win (gosh why an I never so confident with the Lottery?).

No apologies needed, Mark!

And as for the tax thing: Sell the trailer in a heartbeat for, say, $5,000; keep the excellent Eezi-Awn roof tent, pay the tax, and pocket $1500 for accessories . . .

Oh, I like it. Turn my negative into a positive .
As I said, buy a tix anyway. And now I know the glue sniffing is over and the ACF wins.
