So lets say I buy it, and given that it is roadworthy, drive it to the middle of nowhere. How many cases of Pabts will it take to get that bulkhead swapped?

"Trans Needs Work" - You may not be driving it anywhere!
Seriously though...if anyone on this board is considering this remember to take a real close look at everything. Everything I took apart made me want to take more apart b/c I didn't want to do a half-assed job and everywhere I dug into it was worse than I first thought. Just a heads up.

Sorry there is no pabst to be had in the entire nation. I drank it all tonight. You will have to produce $
I'll pitch a tent for you to live in when your wife throws you out.

I had the chance to take apart a brand new 2006 body shell before it ever made it to the road and it was already rusting and oxidizing in the hidden areas. No wonder these trucks ROT so bad. It had rust and oxidation under the capings and have never been in the rain. Other areas were just as bad.

That is sad! Who the hell lets a vehicle like that get to that condition? :angry It looks like it has been sitting on the beach for 14 years with the tide rolling onto it every night... Jeff said he found it while surfing... I think he really did!

hey!
new member here...shopping for a LR.
Someone from www.expeditionportal.com/forum (http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum) sent me here.
I looked at this Defender last evening.
It is indeed very rusty, but I think it would be easy to salvage.
I am from Quebec originally so i have seen my fair share of rust.
if anyone is interested and want more details let me know
tks

Jim,
I didn't know you had living grass at your shop! What happened? You're really letting that place go...

Cant you get 110s for much less and newer up there? Why would you want to spend the hassles on this one?

Ryan has it right. Not a collector but I think it is more of an addiction. After I bought my first one my wife liked it so much she wanted it. Her only drawback was she wanted an automatic and one came up for sale that had been converted to auto and well cared for so we bought that one as well. I got real lucky as both of mine have no rust or rot to speak of(except for a small bit of bleeding at some of the hinges) but both very free of most 110 imperfections. My issue now is one always sits and never gets driven because we always take the auto when we go out. I think I might sell the manual and just keep the auto because it seems like such a waste to just have one sitting all the time. I might throw it on ebay.
surf110 how was the mechanical on #27 and the doors? It sounded like a great deal for the price but we all know how parts can add up as we go.

Thanks. A friend of mine and myself are doing all the work. He knows a lot about these trucks and I'll be learning and helping along the way. This is my second 110. I sold #29 almost a year ago and thought I'd never by a 110 gain, but he adction came back.
Plans for #27 are Td5 frame, engine and full restoration. I'll post a link soon of a website where you guys can see the progress. Right now the axels are being rebuilt.

Mechanically is in decent shape. I might need new doors. The bulkhead is toast.
I'll end with a complete V8 3.9 rolling chassis that I haven't decided what to do. Might build a 110 Hi-cap with parts left over from the wrecked 2000 TD5 110 Hi-cap I'm using as a donor vehicle.
