Just bought my 94 D-90 last friday.
I'm planning a trip to cape hatteras this weekend and need to wire up a harness for the trailer lights. I have a harness and mounitng bracket, but I'm not sure where to start wiring it.
I assume that I will need to cut into the driver side brake light assembly wires and splice in the harness.
Anyone done this before ?
What is the correct way to do it ?

And Look behind the rear speaker on the passenger side for the wires.

Jon, it's not hard just tricky, & the plug is there you just may need to do a bit of searching for it, took me a bit of time but was able to locate it, it was jammed behind the cross-member...
There is a BUT to this, the plug or adapter that you would use is costly, I was quoted about $125.00, not going to happen, I ended up splicing the wires or tapping into...
If you tap into the wires just take your time, I had to replace numerous fuses, but it worked...

If you pull the rear speaker mount on the PS you should see the wires for the tail lights and if you have it the trailer wiring harness.

never got around to this the last time, but I need to get the lights hooked up to pull my boat ( don't worry its small boat)
Basically, someone before me cut the factory plug for the harness, good news is that where each connection was made, they used a female spade connector, and a male bullet connector, leavin open one side for another bullet connector..............so, I should be able to just put male bullet connectors on each of my leads to the convertor ( signal/brakes) , and plug into the open sides on each connection. Hopefully.
My question is, does someone have a breakdown on the wire colors for the following :
Running lights
Brake lights
Signal R
Signal L ( maybe the same as the R )
Rev light
I've blown three fuses trying to test each wire with a cheapo 6-12volt tester light and I'm bout to give up.

jstrong98,
Is your defender the one that was for sale in Virginia?... It looks familiar.
Doesn't the package for the wiring kit come with directions for splicing? I did it for a a J*ep years ago....

Ok, I looked everywhere on the passenger side rear. I couldn't find this plug or harness. Do 94's have the wiring also?
The wire I saw going into the rear brake light were the side markes and one that seemed to run toward the gas tank.
What am i doing wrong?
Thanks!

You probably just have the free connectors with no trailer wiring harness.
Behind the rear right speaker there should be some connectors with nothing attached....that's where the wiring harness connects
