I was checking out the Members List (http://www.d-90.com/forum/memberlist.php?&order=ASC&sort=joindate&pp=40&ltr=) and noticed there has been a steady flow of members since Sept 2003.

How did you guys find the d-90 source?

When I finally decided to seriously look for a Defender, I stumbled on to the web site during a search. I remember how over-whelming the site was initially, I spent most of my time in the FAQ, custom mods and the misc pics section. It wasn't until I bought a Defender that I actually joined the forum.

I initially didn't know what the heck I wanted to search for, I would just read post after posts until I fell asleep...then read some more.

This site has been a wealth of info with a great community!

Well, Sept 03 was when the new forum software was set up, so I think everyone pretty had to create new accounts then. You can still search the old discuss bb which has lots of great info. I just found the site with a web search, it actually took me a while to realize there were forums, like you I was reading all the other stuff.

A buddy of mine from high school had a D90 and was on here for a while, and he sent me the link to the SVX Super D90 pictures (under the Misc. Pictures link up top). I had wanted a D90 since I first saw one when I was 9, and once it became a legitimate possibility I registered on the forum and started buggin people instead of using the search button.

I'm friends with Alan and Mimi Dobbs who own The D90 List (The Yahoo Group) and have been a member there I guess since it started ('97 I guess)...and Chuque was on there. I remember when the D90 Source was the basic website that is somewhat still there...before this part started.

I've always kept up...even when I didn't have a Defender.

Just after I bought my 110 my buddy asked me to sell his 110 for him. Well, I listed it on Ebay and the PO contacted me just to BS. Turns out he had a garage full of D stuff, some from the 110 and some from his 90 he had before that. We spent the better part of a day BSin' around and he mentioned it to me. He couldn't believe I didn't know about it, so I had to check it out! :grin

Once I did I saw all the good info and have checked it pretty consistently since.

I was driving down the Turnpike on my first visit to MAR. Pulled in a service area and a Blue D90 followed me in, turned out to be Mike Hippert and he lives about 20mls from me. Been friends ever since and a member of D90.com

I first found the site off a link on DWeb I think when I first started looking into buying our first Rover. A little while later when looking at modifying the 99 D2, reconnected with the site and decided on buying a D90. Shortly after, I took over the site from Q.

I started following Q's home page back in the mid to late '90's when he first got his Red '95 soft top and was documenting his mods and trips online. I was just dreamin' of a 90 back then. I didn't actually get my first D-90 until the summer of '99. Wow, that's been like 10 years, or more?!?! Man, I'm gettin' old!!

Last I spoke to him, sounded like he was doing good. He had a girl he was dating and real busy with work and other things in his life.

He's doing a lot with his local church and has been helping a friend refurbish a house just round the corner from me. emailed him a few days ago, no reply yet.

I am the original owner of my D-90 - but I sold it to one of my best friends for 4 years. I had no idea that this page existed then.

When I bought the same truck back from my friend 2 years ago, he told me about it. I have been hooked ever since.

Wish I knew about you before - you guys could have talked me out of selling! But all is well........I have the D-90 back to stay!

So there are 6k +/- NAS Defenders in the country, Right? About 3k SW and 3k ST? How many of those members are on this board? And idea?

I guess I could try and pull those numbers from the members profiles somehow but I would have to see how to best get accurate results since people are not consistent with how they enter the info kind of like the locations.

Since I took over, the site has gone from a forum with 20 registered users to now over 3000. I would say that 1/2 of those are/were Defender owners. Doesn't seem like a huge number compare to other forums, but unlike other forums, I actively delete about 25 - 50 accounts a week that are bogus/spamming accounts so the growth in the membership is lower. Also, unlike other forums, I dont require people to register for an account if they just want to surf the forum and look at attachments.

I was researching to buy my D90 in '03(?) and found this through a web search. A great place to exchange info and to make some pretty good friends. I've given several D90 drivers a bumper sticker and telling them how great the site is and how good the community is. Most find it hard to believe there is actually an online group of guys who are constructive and supportive. DiscoWeb is much more the norm for the internet, whereas D90 guys are pretty good at self-discipline. CVC does an awesome job with the site, too.

I've been out of touch with Mike. What happened to his truck...this time?
