Replacing Oil Cooler Lines

:wow Shit, I hope not! It should not loose prime since the oil simply diverts to the oil cooler and is not integral to the system. You could bypass the cooler and be fine.

Jim, what engines do you need to be concerned about losing prime on? Do I need to worry on a 3.9L from a disco 1 (serpentine belt)? I'm replacing the lines on my D90 with that setup now.

When I did the lines on the 94, the pump lost its prime - I assume its a problem common to all the motors with the external oil pump. Its pretty easy to tell if it lost it - since the motor starts and runs very poorly indeed without oil - assuming you know what has happened of course. It kind of took me by surprise since I'm not the most knowledgable v8 guy. I had to drop the pump, and do the "pack it with vaseline" procedure to get the prime back.

Incidentally, I had to do this in the parking lot at a military base where I was TDY, and my buddies got a lot of amusement from seeing me laying under my truck with a tub of vaseline trying to get an 8" long metal shaft into place under the motor.

I'll pitch it again...I've got one (maybe two) more sets of lines and fittings for sale. $77 for the lines and fittings, plus "options". I bought a pair of 18mm and 20mm fittings for the oil filter adapter for someone to try out.

if you lift you truck 2 inchs do you need to get oil lines that are extended or is stock length ok

The relationship between the motor and the radiator does not change since both are mounted on the frame.

Stock length is ok. But if you have never changed your oil lines consider changing them as preventative maintenance. Search this forum for the horror stories associated with not doing so.

Serp trucks rarely, if ever, lose prime. Non-serp trucks do it more often. Different pump designs.
