Rear Door Hinge Screws

can someone tell me what the groove is for in the rear door hinge screw (the one with the spring).....can i replace them with regular stainless screws??

The grove in the bolt is to keep the old school lock washer in place it has a tab in it that keeps it from rotating when you bend down the outer tab. You can put any bolt in just make sure you use some sort of lock nut.
