View Full Version : Mounting 3-Link Crossmember on 300tdi chassis

I ordered a 3-link crossmember from SG, that was supposed to fit a 300tdi. Well, it is no different than the V8 crossmember they make. Greg said that this is what ECR uses. Anyway, the 3-link crossmember interferes with the lower leg of the 300tdi crossmember. I know some of you guys are running this setup, and wondered what you did to get around this. I know I will either have to cut the 300tdi crossmember and weld an ear on to overlap the 3-link crossmember, or either cut the lower mounting point off of the 3-link crossmember, and weld an ear on so it overlaps the 300tdi crossmember. I would rather cut the 3-link crossmember, as I already have my 300tdi crossmember galvanized and installed with the drivetrain in. I know it wouldn't be that big of a deal to remove, but I think the 3-link crossmember will still be just as strong.

Sorry I can't help you, but I just noticed your profile stated you were in Greenville. I have only seen two other Defenders rolling around town, a green hard top and a blue soft top. Seeing if either one was yours.

The blue ST is a guy named Durk. The green SW is me. That is my other 90. The white ST is actually my project truck. What does your truck look like? People have told me that there is a yellow 90 around, but I haven't seen it.

Chris I have your answer. I just did this last week. The tdi cross member is different then a stock sg x member to fit the Tdi exaust pipe but it does interfere with the stock Tdi x-member. I actually just took the botttom bolt out of the stock x member and put the SG one over it. It worked no problem. I will take pics laterto show you. If you need to, call me today.

Chris, mine is the white soft top. Everytime I have seen yours is by the Bojangles on Tenth St. by Pirates Cove. I saw a yellow one months ago, just figured it was passing through. Have you seen the monster of a Discovery at the Eurasion Auto shop by food lion? The guy that drove it said he put a custom 8 or 10 inch lift and running 38's.
