Dakar '08 cancelled

CNN and SI released via the French AP Thursday night that the Dakar race would be cancelled due to safety concerns in Mauritania. Stages have been cancelled in the past, but never the entire race. A press conference was to take place in Lisbon Friday, but I haven't heard anymore. Anyone have an update?

I always enjoy watching the speed channel's coverage of this event, i'll miss it this year... I've always wanted to to some sort of rally either by truck or motorcycle, i don't hava a bike anymore so that is an unlikely situation!
