Trying to gauge demand...

I'm living in the Middle East - Oman. Scrap yards here and in the UAE are full of LR 110, series III, RRC, and Discovery I. Chassis are rust free - most vehicles are scrapped because of mechanical failure (normally engine/transmission) but chassis, axles, body parts are usually immaculate. Engines, particularly diesel tend to be exported to Africa, leaving chassis/body parts to be sold as metal scrap. Would there be a market for exporting chassis and other parts to the US?

As an example: I recently scrapped my 1985 110 in order to build a 90. I binned the chassis, which was entirely straight and rust free and am about to scrap a 1995 Discovery chassis, which is also immaculate. I could probably pick up 15 straight and rust free 110 chassis tomorrow. Seems criminal... If there is a way to recycle these parts? I would be interested in your comments. Naturally, there will be a number of issues to resolve before exporting to the US - this post is simply to gauge interest.

Interested...

Mark

Bring them on! I've seen the same thing in Kuwait! I'll bet guys would go nuts for three Door Disco 1 panels, if they're around, Good Middle East grills too. 110 Chassis and Salisbury axles.

It's auto parts should not be any issue importing them.

Bloody hell, keith...

3-door disco I body panels, and middle east grills disappear in seconds even over here! But 110 chassis and salisbury axles = ten a penny. In fact, I have a 110 salisbury axle outside cluttering up the yard... Interested?

If the price is right, I'm interested in a 110 chassis!

Revor,
did you come across the 2 Defender ambulances at the ASP (munitions storage facility) outside
Kuwait city with all the dust and sand from yrs of none use? After 30mins or so of dwoolling all over
them the Kuwaiti Officer came out and said "I will sell you them very cheep-very cheep" do you own
them yes-yes.

Came close to telling him to get them to the port....but the images of some of the Mid-East
prisons came to mind. Like the one on the back-side of Camp Doha Kuwait.

Nothing like that.. I only get pics and decriptions from my Kuwaiti spys.. A few guys that manage to get off base and do you remember that guy Yousef? Yes he is still alive and well and teases me with Kuwait wrecking yards every time he goes over! We've schemed and researched bringing the goods back over here. Should be quite simple.
Sorry if I made it sound like I was there.. I've traveled across the Pacific but not the Atlantic yet.

I will likely be in Kuwait (unfortunately) next spring. Any info about sources outside the bases will be handy, as units are likely there for 1-2 weeks before moving north. I can always get out to an asp as a staff officer.

No idea which base I'll be at, so I'll take it all.

Think you could scrounge up a front salisbury?

Think you could scrounge up a front salisbury?

I have arranged a meet with two yard owners on saturday. We will do a yard walk-round and discuss options for 'bulk' buy-outs. Front salisbury's, although I doubt I'll find one, are on my list! I had a quick look in my favorite yard on Wednesday. They were clearing out most of the 110 gear to fit in all the disco1 stuff that's coming in, so I'm hopeful.....

To all those that expressed interest, I'm still trying to pin down a couple of yard owners. Seems the MOD just had an auction, so all the dealers are busy! I'll post again when I have more info...
