Goodyear Wrangler MT/R or BF Goodrich Mud Terrain M/T

Which tire do you guys think is better...I have heard the Goodyear but am not really sure...I want to get a set of Mud Tires although i have zero complaints about my All Terrain TA's right now.....Just wondering what you all thought about either one...

search the site, there's some good info. but, out of all the tires I've run (BFG MTs, ATs, TracEdges, Coopers, Michelins, GYs), the 2 sets of MTRs I've run have been the best all-around .... from street to muddy Tellico to dry rockcrawling in Cruces.

I've run both the BFG MTs (not the new pattern though) and the Goodyear MT-R.

Personally, I would go with the Goodyear MT-R. I think it's a much better all around tire. Seems to have better street manners, better in the snow and rain especially when they're siped. And they grip awesome on the rocks (and slickrock). bit softer compound than the BFG MT though.

The BFG is a better tire if you're drive ALOT of miles on them. The hard rubber compound wears like iron and you'll get alot more miles out of them. But they're louder than the MT-Rs and give a rougher ride on the road.

Yeah my buddy works at goodyear and he told me that the MT/R was the best rated off road tire on the market at one time...Now this sounds gulliblie, but being my good buddy i didn't think he would rip me but who knows....But thanks for the input and with some more research ill prob make up my mind

Interco TrXus MT. About the same (maybe a bit better) than the MT/R but much cheaper. IME, BFG M/T are much worse than either of those.

For all that people mention the road noise of the BFG MT, I don't find it that bad. Besides, anyone sensitive to such ought to buy a Discovery.

What I really like is how long they have lasted. I bought my 94 with 24K in summer '99. At 70k this past winter I finally replaced the front two. The rears are still in good shape. It wouldn't surprise me if these were the original tires 10 years ago. Most mud tires call it quits at 30k

I'm runnin BFG MTR's, second generation. I've riden in jeeps with goodyear wranglers and i have to say i think they are a lot louder than the bfg's. Also, he's gone trough one set of Goodyears in a year, i'm not even a quarter a way through my bfg's.

Jorge has 36" swamper on his truck with those rims and 90mph is no problem.. I guess:crazy

certainly people do it, but i wouldn't go more than ~0.5" narrower than the recommended rim width ... so for that tire a 265/75r16. you 'can' run into handling problems with too narrow a rim .... not to mention the increase chance of a bead unseating .. especially off-road when you air down.

my 2 cents.

Replaced the old style BFG MT's with the second generation BFG MT's in January. Road noise is non-existant now. Handling much better. Offroad they have performed exceptionally. Plows thru the mud.

No complaints as of now. Expensive though.

Don't think you can go wrong with either brand.

The thing that I noticed about the old style BFG MT is that once the tread began to wear, the rubber seemed to harden and then the tires howled like crazy. I went from the BFGs to Super Swamper SSRs, and the SSRs were noticably quiter...

How do you like the SSR's, they make a 35x10.5, is it pretty good on the street and at 75mpg??

I agree with Nathan's comment on the old-style BFG MT's. I had the same issues.
Plus, I really wasn't very impressed with the tire off-road, I expected it to be much better than it was.
That said, I am very impressed with the new BFG MT. Other than the name, it's an entirely new tire.
Much better off road, quieter on road. It wears as well as the old version, but I haven't had the rubber hardening problems (yet).

Older tires typically make more noise than newer ones, regardless of whatever rubber hardening you may have seen. That's been my experience with a variety of mud tires.

BFG 2'nd Generation MTR's. Run them on My D1. Ridden in plently of land rovers and jeeps with goodyear MTR's and they are much louder.

They put the white letters on so you can tell the real four-wheelers from the posers, anyone who goes out on the trail will have all the white part of the letters scraped off in no time.

Yeah the White letters are rediculous...its just an advertising thing...I turn my white letters to the inside...If BFG were to pay me for advertising i guess i would keep the white letters on the outside.....hehehehe....Until then no white letters on my rover....
