Is there anyway to get stainless bolts to replace the pivot bolts? There are four on the carrier. Three are the same size. One is longer.

Have you checked with McMaster?

I haven't but I guess I should. Not sure of size. I think they are called shoulder bolts.

Any success on finding the stainless pivot/shoulder bolts? I'm in the same situation. I just got a carrier and only one of the three is good. Rovers North wants $57.26...each! I'll mine the ore myself before I do that!
Also, anybody know how the pivot bolt in the photo is attached on the inside? I got the TC with it this way and it neither goes in nor comes out. It just wants to spin. RN's site shows an exploded view of the TC on page 60 of the catalog (part 34) and it looks different. Mine has no nut on the other end.

has anyone found a cheap part to use other than oem LR bushings?

I don't know if this shop would have these specific bolts but I did take them a box of all the rest of the bolts for the tire carrier and rear step bumper and they matched them all in SS for me. It was less then $20 and it took the guy there less then a day to fix me up with all the correct sized bolts.
The shop is here in Denver off of I-25 and Alameda.

In my case, the old bushings were not great, but usable and I just made my own bolts by modifying off-the-shelf bolts. Sorry I don't have an answer for alternates for the OEM bushings.

I believe Atlantic British has a reasonably priced bolt kit (non stainless). Check with Eric.

Ordered bolts from McMaster Carr based on comments in another thread. Seems they were not the correct thread. The original long bolt on my carrier is stripped so my plan is to re thread that part since the shoulder bolt has seems to be a bit larger.
The other issue I am having is that the bottoms of my brackets seem to be threaded. When I thread the old nuts on the new bolts they work, which makes me assume that I have the correct thread. I can't get the new bolts to thread the brackets first to even put nuts on them. Are the brackets supposed to be threaded on one side? Would the new powder coating on the brackets interfere with the threading of the bolts? Can I file down the threads on the brackets and just use the nuts to hold them together?
Thanks,
Alex

1. yes
2. yes
3. no (use a tap to clean the threads out)

Alex, did you tap the threads? Did the mcmaster bolts have the same thread and work?
I need a set of bolts for a tire carrier now too. I actually have a set from AB which looks like those mcmaster parts and at $60 it might actually be cheaper, but I don't want to press out/replace my bushings since the carrier will be galvanized later, and these seem to have a slightly larger diameter for the stock bushings and I don't want to force them.
Anyone have an old rusty set of bolts lying around? This is for my trailer and anything will do, even if just temporary until I tear it down for galvy.
TIA,
charles

I had to have the carrier re blasted and coated because of some bubbles in the powder coat so I did have them tap the holes then. I ended up with new bushings since they pushed them out and I used some bolts from McMaster. I'll have to look at what I finally went with, I was given the correct part number from a board member. The ones I originally ordered were incorrect.
I have some extra (as in 20 something since they come in packs of 25 nuts) I can mail you if you are interested.

So they tapped them out just to clear out the powder coat, not change the threads right? If that's the case, would you mind looking at your purchase history and let me know which bolts were the right fit? I have one stock bolt and nut so I don't need any for comparison (and I'm going to see if I can determine what thread it is at HD today), but if I do end up ordering bolts from mcmaster I might take you up on the offer as I'll need 3 then :).

Thought I'd post this here to help others out looking for this info. The hardware needed from McMaster is
1 x 92981A510 long bolt
3 x 92981A507 short bolt
1 x 93935A350 (you have to buy a pack of nuts)
8 x 6659K35 bushings
You can probably find them cheaper elsewhere but McMaster is great to deal with. See their site for dimensions which I verified against a replacement set from AB.

These are the same as round 2 of bolts. The ones that work and are currently in use and look super duper.

Has anyone tried the McMaster shoulder bolts with the factory bushings with any success. The latter seem to be nowhere close to 16mm, and bolts manufactured within very fine tolerances tend not to fit. :)

Hrmmm. The McMaster specs for the shoulder bolts above in post 16 (http://www.d-90.com/forum/showpost.php?p=231615&postcount=16) seem right (M12, 1.75). But the shoulder diameter tolerance seems too fine (much as my locally sourced bolts) to fit. I assume all would work well with these and new bushes. Or are you suggesting that something else is wrong here?
Thanks!

The thread pitch is different for the bolts that thread into the carrier. The one that goes through and has a nut on the end s fine.

Paul, the thread pitches are fine, but I found the bolts to be a very tight fit with new bushings.

Just talked to Alex. Didn't realize she ever found the right part. Good to know. First set she ordered that were from a part number posted here were wrong.
