For all you cheapskates like me who don't want to spend $350 on a chunk of aluminum to mount your soft top, bikini or safari tops to, check out my solution. This simple design would need some tweaking if you wanted to use it with a soft top as I imagine it might leak on the outer edges since it doesn't curve down at the ends.
I used some 3" flat stock and some 1-1/4" angle. I used the plasma cutter to trim off about 1" of the angle iron to make it an "L". Then the two pieces were welded together and holes drilled to mount it in the stock threaded holes in the windshield. Total time was about 2 hours including paint drying time, and total cost was $30 for materials.
