Rumble/Vibe

Between about 70 and 80 mph, I hear (and feel) a rumble from the drivetrain only under a slight load (with the pedal barely depressed). If the pedal is fully down or fully up, there is no sound/vibe.

It sounds and feels like when you run over the grooves on the shoulder of the highway.

Just had ther 60k service done and everything looked OK. Any ideas as to where to look?

Check your u joints or even a loose drive shaft

I was wondering about that, but wouldn't the vibe be present at all loads?

Nope when my U-Joints start going bad they make noise at different speeds. A good way of finding a faulty U-joint is to feel them after they have been vibrating for a few minutes, the bad one will be warm. Works for me every time.:grin

Is this the same diagnosis for a vibration when letting off the gas at about 60 -70 mph and no load? I'm sure it is. Any suggestions on replacement U-joints?

have either of you two added a lift recently? the clashing sound is typical of a lift. If you have added a lift , your drive shafts are at a diff angle from stock-and some adjustments will be neccessary to elliminate the vibe. ROCK ON JP

OK I have the same problem!! Showed up after I put the OME lift on.

How do you adjust the shaft angle. I know that the transfer case and rear diff. angles should be the same. How do I adjust?

I have been avoiding the Tom Woods driveshaft change.

First , isolate the sound by removing drivelines one at a time and test drive. I would remove front first, and when you test drive -move your cent diff lock to left position. If your noise/vibe goes away with front removed, then buy a tom woods double cardan style or equive shaft and install. If sound/vibe goes away with rear removed, you can add a woods double cardan shaft and tilt the rear diff up to be in line with the shaft. The diff can be manipulated with adjustable rear links. OR you could keep your stock rear shaft and add adjustable rear links to lower the diff to be in parallel with the output of transfer case. This method may wear your ujoints a little quicker though. Rovertym and rovertracks make adjustable rear control arms. JP
