Julian,

Looks like a different engine. The exhaust/injection sides of the engine are reversed-mine is a 2h 4 liter.

At the risk of asking a "stupid newbie" question, can this truck be legally titled in any state in the US?

Answer is yes, It'll pass DOT & EPA as it is 25 years old... 1983 was the first year of the 110, so 2008 is the first year we can import the ones from over the pond.. I have heard though, California may be a bit more difficult, not sure on that though.

Thank you for the info. I assume that with the Toyota diesel conversion, the reliability of this type truck would be pretty good? Just have to learn how to shift gears with my left hand!! :)

Doug,

You seem familiar with Julian and his vehicles, did you purchase one from him, or import one from the UK? I am interested in what process was required from the US port of entry to your driveway in the realm of obtaining a title etc.

Collected, I drove 300miles back, she ran very nicely at 65-70mph. Averaging 22mpg. Since getting her back I have replaced the wheels and tyres with new LWB rims and avon rangemaster radial 750x16 tyres. This vehicles does not have power assisted steering.

Good points:
Drives well
steering tight
body good
door frames in good condition
bulkhead good
gearbox good, selects all gears, with no nasty noises LT95 4 speed box.
Chassis sound, only light surface rust in places.
Clock works
Powerful windscreen washers

Bad points:
Paint work looks good at a distance but cound do with a respray.
Engine has an oil leak from rocker cover
there's some play in the rear diff
Needs new shocks.
No power steering so its a man's car!
Interior second row seats have some rips on the backs.
Door trim is tired.

We are offering this vehicle for $14,000 including shipping to dockside on the east coast , this price includes a full engine and transmission service and the repair of the rear differential.

***

Alternatively we offer this vehicle for sale at $20,000 including shipping to dockside on the east coast, this price includes a full engine and transmission service and the repair of the rear differential, new shocks, proffessionally waxoiled chassis, proffessionally resprayed exterior body work in the colour of your choice.

Julian, a few questions on the 110 originally posted (1983 Defender 110 RHD CSW RED - DIESEL)

1-What is the mileage on the truck?

2-What is the mileage on the engine/when was the conversion done?

3-Any pics of the engine compartment?

Thanks.

Neil,

1. I was let to believe that the truck had about 90,000 miles on it when the engine conversion was done, but i can not veryfy this. The current mileage is 131,000, but it is unknown wether the diesel was new or second hand when it was put in, i suspect it was a used engine, I was told the conversion was done 6 years ago, but i can't veryfy this either, as the conversion was not done by the people i brought the truck from. I can for an additional $6000 convert this truck to 200tdi with a new clutch.

2. See above.

3. See pic, I will take more.

please email me at julian@globallandrovers.f9.co.uk as I have video of her driving.
