Opinions? Has anybody had one of these. My desire for a rack like this is to be able to put the tent on the front of the rack and haul gear on the rear part of the rack (remember three people who carry loads of stuff and me, and the two big dogs) I would like to move more of the weight to the front of the truck as there will water and Fuel tanks behind the wheels in the rear.

Keith - I think it's an excellent idea. Gives you flexibility to distribute the load as you see fit. One trip you may want heavy gear up front like the tent. Another you may have lighter gear. By standing on the fenders it will have be easy to tie down and access. I don't see any downsides. HTH. Mark

This is a SD rack. The ladder is now supported by a RoverHybrids bumper and is very stable. Just a thought. If you need particulars I can put you in touch with the owner.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking Jeff, But I will probably go out a little further. I anticipate the the end of the Tent will be dead even with the end of the Bonnet and the ladder will still go out beyond the A Bar on the bumper (Rockware in this case). I have a basic Brownchurchish 3/4 rack that I plan to extend as much as required to fit the tent.

You could have Julian and Doug bring one over from England when they ship their next truck.

Oh... You know, just trying to figure out how to make it all fit.. I think I can do this without going over board.

With all that weight u plan on putting up there you might want to consider outriggers like the consumer report cars have :)

I have some buddies who traveled around the world in series dormobiles. Their racks hung out over the bonnet as well. They worked quite well. Here is the url to the web site I produced for them. You can check out the images for additional input. I would be carefull about putting too much "weight" above the center of gravity for your truck. If you are staying on well graded roads- it won't be an issue - you hit some off camber rocky roads.... you might have to buy a medical device to relax your sphincter ....

These same guys drove around the world in 4 Discos to bring world wide awareness to Parkinson Disease. ( I did a bunch of graphics and design work for them when they were attracting sponsors- LRNA was one of them) I didn't do their web site for them on that trip... they couldn't afford my rates - and already do a butt load of charity work.
