1995 Coniston Green D90. 99K Miles. $23K.

This is not the "Best D90 in North America". It is not "Virtually rust free". It is not a stock NAS. It has been a great truck though, and I've treated her right. It has seen trail use, but it's also my daily driver. Here's the bits:

The Goods:

2" OME Lift (HD front, MD rear with OME Trim Packers in the rear to level it out when loaded)
255/85 BFG MTs
Rear Tire Swing with Hi-lift mount
Hannibal Roof Rack
4 Hella Ralleye 3000 (2 pencil beam, 2 cornering beam, on relays with OEM column switch)
Rovers North Bumper with Husky 10K Winch
Dual Excide Batteries (No isolator, just wired straight parallel)
Aux Fuse Block located in rear of center cubby
Large Center Cubby with 12V sockets inside and on the rear
Rear work light - On all the time, off all the time, on with reverse
Oil pan cold weather heater with integral plug by the light
CB Antenna (CB not included)
XM Antenna (head unit included)
Dual Band Antenna (dual band radio not included)
12 Volt wired to wood rack for radios (x2)
Roof Rack box (fiberglass)
Interior steel box (grey one on the wheel well)
Ammo box (Fat .50 cal) mount (The ammo box in the pics is not included. Shown for mount only)
Includes all four jumpseats as well

The Bads:

2nd gear grind if shifted too quickly
When reversing, a rumbling sound comes from the tranny. It has done this for 2 years. I've changed the fluid 3 times and no chunks. It doesn't do it all the time.
Rear crossmember is suffering from some delamination but not at the "needs to be replaced stage" yet. Still solid. I intend to VACTAN (POR-15) this.
Body has 3 "oops". One on the front passenger fender. One on the rear passenger quarter near fuel filler, front bumper is tweaked slightly on the drivers side from jacking with the high-lift (see pic)
Rear a-frame ball joint makes a knock sound when accel/decelerating
Texas pin-stripping from trail riding.

Mechanics

Items recently replaced:

Cap, Rotor, Plugs, Wires
Wheel bearings repacked
Water Pump
Alternator
Clutch MC
Fluids changed frequently

Spares

Rear stock axles
Old alternator. It still worked when I replaced it, but the bearing was squeeling. Still good for a bench spare.

The alloys were trade for the white steelies.

Vehicle is located in Newport News, VA.

Reason for sale: Becoming newest member of the '83 110 Source next month.

Thanks for looking!

I love the look of the steel wheels on a 90... Good luck

rover4x4
a good looking truck, sorry to hear you are selling your soul to the devil.

If youd be willing to part out id take the bumper and winch in trade for cash and a factory setup.

Wow- first time I've seen this truck when it wasn't loaded with all the expedition gear. Neat truck, very acurately described. Good luck with the sale Neil.

SOUTHPAW26
Very nice truck. And that sounds like a very honest description.

I think that you forgot that you upgraded the oil cooler lines. Thanks again for the old ones. Great guy, great truck.

Good luck

steinhnj
Yes, the cooler lines were upgraded. Also has the Limited Edition Lynchee Galvanized Steering Guard. :)

Thanks Dennis.

Just wanted to throw a good word in for this truck. Neil is very detail oriented and took great care of this truck. All of the mods and upgrades are well thought out and well done.

The truck is in good condition and rides great. He failed to mention he's driven it up and down the east coast numerous times over the last year or two. One day while visiting he told me he felt like he had a vibe sometimes. I rode with him and it was the smoothest defender ride I've ever taken!

Good luck with the sale Neil.

Neil,

Post some action pics. Like that one of you and Cabell coming up "daniel".

steinhnj
Here's us going up Daniel. That's Cabel in the passenger's seat with that, "This guy's out of control" look on his face. Some other things I forgot to mention: Small chip in the windshield. Has been there since I bought it and has not run (over 2 years). H4 Headlights. Rear headliner has been removed. Couldn't take the sagging. Headliner in the cab is still there.

bump for neil

steinhnj
Thanks Doug.

I had an offer of 20K but told the guy that I wasn't quite ready to drop that much yet. I've got one guy in Ohio that seems serious and another that happens to be right here in Newport News that's looking at it on Tuesday. If it goes before the 110 gets here I may be looking for an old Mercedes to go WVO on.

Maryland 110
@ this point I might be able to fix you up with @ loaner 110 with the provision you have to sell it for me.

steinhnj
Actually one of the guys that emailed me about my truck actually wants an '83 110. So if you weren't joking, I may take you up on that.

Maryland 110
just let me know

steinhnj
UPDATE:

$20K without the bumper and winch. Stock Bumper will be supplied but it has a small dent in the underside.

Still considering offers to include the winch and bumper.

JimC
Where you at now Neil? I'll trade you a set of alloys for the steelies if you think that would help.

steinhnj
I'm in Newport News, VA. I was tired of seeing all of the NOVA guys getting together all of the time and decided to join the gang.

Thanks for the offer, but I really think the steelies look better than the alloys. My hope is that other people do too. Maybe if it was going on eBay I'd consider it, but I don't think I'll need to go to that. Not saying that eBay is bad, but the O-4 results just came out so I'm not in the hurt locker if it doesn't go.

The 110 goes on a boat next Saturday though. Getting very excited.

Hey Neil, come up to the Friday happy hour man! You can pitch your tent in the backyard as usual..

Now thats what I call a good friend.

cgalpin
You think thats good? I even let him use the sh*tter - if he leaves a quarter of course.

Maryland 110
I was thinking I would keep the winch and bumper for the 110 if I was you. I have a galvanized front bumper with galv "lifting rings" recovery points if you want a non-NAS alternative.
Per our offline conversation- come on up drop the 90 and grab a loaner. Come up the Eastern Shore route.

steinhnj
Sounds good Doug. We're suppposed to go waterborne on Friday so I could be up Sat afternoon. I'll keep you posted.

I think I'm hijacking my own thread. Is that possible?

Oh, I think the steelies look better too - thats why I offered to trade!

Congrats on the O increase. I got the 4 last year and its not bad since housing and everything goes up along with the base.

I think you should keep the truck instead of giving it away for 20k.

Agreed! It's worth much more, and who knows - he may not like his 110 as much.

Maryland 110
Neil,

They put a sub thats been out of the water for a year and a half back in and you guys don't take her out for a shake down or something ? Congrats on the O4 raise.

steinhnj
Yes, we'll go on sea trials but not until closer to December. We just have all of the holes plugged so we can get in the water. At least we think we do. We had 4 hull cuts for various reasons. It's pretty cool to see them weld back the inch and a half HY80 plates that were cut out. Sea trials will be about a week long.

Maryland 110
You go back in July but sea trials are in December ? What happens in the interim ? Still in the yard just in the water while they continue to work ?

steinhnj
Yep. We're getting a brand new navigation system and fire control system that requires about 2 months of testing. Not to mention steaming the engineroom. That's if everything goes as planned.

Northrop Grumman is setting record for the longest Depot Modernization Period for a submarine in the history of the Navy.

Maryland 110
So your boat is making history for slacking @ Newport News Ship Yard instead of tear assing around the oceans shadowing our N.Korean and Chinese friends ?

Guess thats a better way to become famous in an LA Class than surfacing & sinking a fishing trawler or running into an underwater mountain on the way to vacation in Austrailia like those other guys.

Maryland 110
great truck- you guys are missing it....

TwisteD90
Neil, if you still have it please call me 303-882-6638. Or just email me your # and I will call you.

Thanks

steinhnj
Bump pour moi.

I'm sure that people are concerned about the transmission. There is a thread here: http://www.d-90.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1283&page=1&pp=20&highlight=2nd+gear+grind that hopefully puts some minds at ease about the 2nd gear grind, especially those that haven't driven a D before. The truck is now located in CT and will most likely get the jump seats put back in.
