Take the L train from union station under the river to the Bedford stop. This puts you square in Williamsburg (Brooklyn), which is the hipster place to be, lots of young people, tons of cool bars, and places to eat, partying till all hours.. good place to bar crawl if you're not afraid of taking the train a few stops.
a few blocks away is PeterLugers, (right next to the williamsburg bridge on the brooklyn side. A 5 or 10 block walk from the forementioned L train stop.) the world famous steak place - lots of character and truly world class steak.
And don't forget Grimaldis while you're in Brooklyn, its right under the BK side of the brooklyn bridge, drive towards it and try to get right underneath the bridge, you'll see the pizza place. If you like thin crust NY pizza this is definitively it.
have fun

Tillmans is a low-key hip-hop bar thats very cool and has a great soul food kitchen: http://www.tillmansnyc.com/
Goldbar if you want glitz; small and exclusive: http://www.goldbarnewyork.com/specialevents/. Gotta pay to get past the velvet rope.

Nat Shermans if you are a smoker, their new location is on 42nd right near the old corner location on 5th. The Campbell Aparment for cocktails in the SW corner of Grand Central Station (No sneakers allowed) for a cool bit of old NY. Try the Eastgate in Murray Hill for rooms.

Im also asking my friend to see if she has any deals for you.
If you guys are going out I would suggest the Lowest East side. Great bars and chill crowd.

I live across the street from Niagra Bar. I can recommend tons of awesome bars and places to eat. We can drink a bunch of beers and then I'll show you where Jorge parks his D-90.. :)
