yet another tire ? / opinion BFG

Hi all,

Anyone here have any pictures or can post an opinion on the BFG 255/85/16?? Supposedly it is 33.3" by 10.2, this seems perfect for the Wolf wheel. If someone has had or seen this tire on a D90, does it look "bigger" or as aggressive as the 285 on a stock wheel?

Thats becoming a very popular size in the UK now. It seems to be about perfect size before you have to go down the gearing change/axle upgrade road!
I'm probably getting them for mine soon.

how are they on a D-90 with a stocker supension? Any noticable effects on the lack of "gearing" for the increased tire size. I have been lookin at these but I think they are too big for a 90 in stock congifuration?

If you have a manual trans you won't notice much difference, if you have an auto you may notice it more. Ken doesn't have any lift in his 90 and they work OK for him.

On your rig the tires look nice, if I was to put the NATO steel wheels on, would the 255's come out to the edge of the wheel flare? Basically, I'm trying to get the following: 33" - 35" tire that runs EXCELLENT on the highway, and come out to the edge of the wheel flare but not to look balloned...

Is this a dream scenario or is there a perfect tire out there??

The SSR 35x10.5 looks like it may also work but will hit hurt the gears on the 97'

I'm planning the OME setup next month...

1st D90ST:
Stock BFG AT 265/75/R16 for about 50K miles

Old-style BFG MT 265/75/R16 & 285/75/R16 - not nearly as impressed as I thought I'd be.

New Style BFG AT/KO 285/75/R16 - excellent on-road manners, good off-road. Great in snow/ice.

Current D90SW:
Pro Comp AT (Severe weather rated) 305/70/R16 - Not nearly as good on-road in snow/ice as the BFG AT/KO - never used off road.
Size was too darn wide. Good ride on dry roads.

BFG MT/KM 255/85/R16 - Best tire I've used off-road. Good on-road manners. Siped, not bad in snow/ice. Much improved over the old design. Size is perfect, they stuff well off-road instead of rubbing the flares like the wider tires.

Eventually, I plan to go to a 36" x 10.5" tire, but that's not until the next round of upgrades ;)

Right, no MT/R's. I just couldn't get passed the "Wrangler" name :gag Now if I owned a Jeep on the other hand...

I would like to wheel them for a comparison though and I've heard they do well on road in snow also.
How do they wear compared to the BFG's?

Agree, your tires do not look too wide, nice profile. I wonder how they would look on the Atlantic British Wolf wheels, anyone know if that rim comes out toward the flare more than a stock rim? If so, I should be all set.
