By now most of us have heard of the new Crosslander vehicle that will is being manufactured in Brazil...

However, I recently was reading some information on the web about another Defender knock off that will be manufactured in Andalucia, Spain. The truck is actually built by the team that used to make Land Rovers. But this is an all-new vehicle that's incredibly cheap and is coming to the UK this summer.

Bearing the unlikely name of Anibal, it's the work of Spanish car manufacturer Santana, the company built Land Rovers under licence until 1993. Since then, it has been busy behind the scenes developing its own vehicle based on redesigned parts – and this is the result.

Clearly there IS a large international market for these types of vehicles. I don't think FORD will sit and watch one of it's marquee brands lose market share.

The crosslander looks kinda crap, but the Anibal could be interesting. Have to lose those rear leafs.

And the military version is great. The HPCU version would be cool. I'd get one with the widows down options and all so it could be totally open.

Actually, the only LR parts it has are the gearbox, which is a Santana box that they made for LR anyway. It is basically an updated 109. There is not a single body panel on it that is common with the defender. There was an article on it in LRW about a year ago. Seems like it came with a 2.5L Iveco diesel. It has a wider rear door with no windows across the back. The windscreen is different, glass is much higher. Has a VERY cheap looking interior.

If I recall the springs on the Santana are a parabolic. They ride much better than the standard series springs. The ride quality is somewhere between coil and standard leaf springs. The parabolics get much better articulation than the old leaf springs.

EEEWWWW, front shackled leaf springs in the front!! The only thing that makes that acceptable is if there is an a-track in the dash. But, simple to fix, throw a springover in there and some fender love, might be a cool truck. I would roll it.

You know the more I look at it the more it reminds me of a 1970s station wagon, you know the one on National Lampoons Family Vacation.

I have the LT85 in my truck. It's a very sturdy box.

Yeah, now that you have a good one in there. Did Daniel tell you the hoops he had to jump through to replace it?

:D

Only that he had it replaced in South Africa. At least I knoe it is fairly new. The truck runs strong so far.
