A couple folks asked for pics so here are a couple of teasers.
Pay no attention to the exhaust which currently runs in to the pass side footwell. That's just for annoying passengers.

Yeah, it is rather large. I think it's about 3" as is the exhuast from the turbo.

Have you run the drive train? That stubby drive shaft looks to be at an angle. Are you getting any vibrations from it?
Looks like it will be a good crawler.

I have run it sitting in the driveway. with that particular shaft spinning. I've taken great pains to keep the output from the transmission parallel to the t-case input. So far it runs real smooth.

Just to clarify, the shaft does run at an angle. The input and outputs are parallel but are offset by about 3/4 of an inch.

Hey Mike, coming along fairly well but slow as usual. I've got the front steering linkage sorted out. Had to modify the front left wing to fit round the hydroboost brake stuff. Installed the radiator. I hope to fire it up and run it for a while this weekend to make sure every thing is ok and that it doesn't leak. Well, at least I hope it doesn't leak any more than is appropriate for an old rover. I'll try to get some more pics for you this weekend.
I've finally sorted out what I think is a good routing for the 3" inch exhaust. I will also need to make some modifications to the oil pan because the driveshaft seems to want to occupy the same space as the oil pan when the right front suspension compresses. Some thing tells me that bad things would happen when that occurs.
Look for some updates on Sunday.

Yep... tell me about slow. I've just started a rotten bulkhead replacement project. :(

There should be a video of the semi finished project here:

It got down to the wire so I had to decide what things were going to be optional for the first trip out. I ended up running the soggy, foggy, rainy weekend with no light, no wipers, no rear shocks, and only a partial front floor.
On the positive side, the little cummins ran flawlessly. This motor has some pull to it right off idle. For very rocky terrain it is a significant improvement of the stock drivetrain. I was able to crawl very slowly over the tougher obstacles. On the down side, my top speed is even lower that it was with the stock LandRover drive train.
Articulation is considerably better than stock. I'm trying to see if anyone got pictures of the suspension flexed out on some obstacles.

Thanks for the comments. I'm slow on projects so this thing has taken me over a year to get to this point. I've still got a lot of work to do but just couldn't wait for all that to be done. I had to get out on the trail. Still need to finish a bunch of wiring as well as bending up some metal for the pass side floor. Right now the passenger need to be carefull where they put their feet so they don't melt the soles on the exhaust from the turbo. The exhaust is 3" straight through. At the moment there's more noise from the engine than from the exhaust.
