View Full Version : Group Buy: Gas Tank Skid Plates
SlickRockFab
April 10th, 2004, 04:41 PM
Hi Everyone,
Several people expressed interest in getting a group buy started for the stainless steel gas tank skid plates that I offer.
The skid plates are manufactured from 3/16 304 stainless steel that is CNC laser cut, and then bent using a CNC press break. The use of the CNC machinery ensures that each skid plate is identical and will fit properly.
Group buy price
5 – 9 $175.00
10 – 20 $170.00
Shipping has been averaging $25 - $35 depending on location. I can also arrange to ship multiple skid plates in the same container. For instance if there are several people that want to split shipping and are located on the same area.
Please post here if you want to get in on the group buy so I will know how many skid plates we need. The cut off date for the group buy will be 4/26/2004 and they will be available approximately 3 weeks after the group buy closes (mid May).

Someone mentioned something about the threaded holes for the antisway bars in the Wanted thread. I wanted to make sure that your plates have these.

Hi Joe,
I can add holes to the skid plate in the appropriate location. Then a lock nut and bolt could be used to hold the sway bar in place.

Is the NAS 90 and NAS 110 the same?
I would be interested.

Where's your tank located and how big is it? The 90 has a 15 gallon tank that is just infront of the rear cross member.

The D90 gas tank skid is different than the 110.
With that said….. I would like to look at the skid on your 110 and see if it would be worthwhile to make some. Is that that something that we could arrange Steve?

As a result of adding the sway bar holes the skids they might take a little bit longer than originally planned. We will need to make a prototype and test fit it. But it should not set things back more that a week or two.
Have a great weekend!

Dave,
Probably a day late and a dollar short but you still 'gots' any of this piece of hardware ?
95 D90 SW ...
The plate on there looks a bit rusty and it's got other holes in it but they aren't filled with anything, so I guess I need the one without holes. I don't know what the sway bars look like, the truck has been like this since I got it.
Also if you have them, how much is the shipping to TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA 32308 ??
AND, I emailed you about some ROCK SLIDERS and was wondering if you had those...?
THANKS

Nick, how rusty is it? If it's surface, I would pull it, sand blast and galvanize it. Cheap and easy if you missed the group buy. Otherwise, maybe get a used one and have that galvied while you use your existing one.
Just possibilities if Dave can't accomodate you....

ahhh... good idea
I can see some spots just by looking at it and I dread to think of what it looks like underneath, kind of like the pictures on the 'slickrock' website.
I don't think this guy is alive, I'm going to take your suggestion and run ... and on top of that buy the Bill Burke Sliders...
thx & cheers,

"Who died"
Not me
I am still alive and kicking :grin
But I think he was saying that his skid plate was dead and that he was going to run with Dave M's advice.

Anyhow,
Sorry for the lack of updates. The skid plates are moving along just fine and will be ready to go in about two weeks. I have made a prototype of the skid with the sway bar holes and everything looks great.
thanks
Dave

Dave fit the prototype on my 90, and I have to say it is KICK ASS! It is 10 times stronger than stock. If you bent it, (which you wont), you will have bigger problems than a bent skid plate. For instance a missing rear cross member or a rear axel. It is just plain bomber.
After the old skid plate was off, I was stunned at how much rust was actually under the tank. I was also amazed at how flimsy the sock unit is. It is like 12 gage sheet metal with a pieces of light tubing, like electrical conduit, welded to the front.

I thought i'd just give my kudos to Dave on an excellent product. My old on ewas truly shot and the new one fits awsome. Be prepared for a heck of a time getting the bolts out.
The only improvement you could make is ship it with a tap (10mm 1.5 thread) and replacemnt bolts, because your gonna need both :)

Hi Charles,
Good idea with the Tap, I added it as an option on the skid plate page.
I figured it would be better to add it as a selectable option. This way people that already have a tap of that size or people that live in dry climates that feel that they do not need it will not have to incur the additional cost.

6 mounting bolts and 6 washers are included with every skid plate. If for some reason you did not receive them send me an email.

The box arrived beat to all hell, and no hardware. I just assumed it wasn't provided :)
Not to worry as I just went to Lowes and got some (installed a couple weeks back).
Nice to see you taking feedback!

Sorry that the box arrived damaged :( was everything else ok with the exception of the missing bolts/washers?

I really appreciate feedback, it gives me a chance to make my business/ products better and keep you guys happy :pimp
Anyone else receive a damaged box? If so I might have to look into different packaging options. After all we do not want any scratches on that bling bling stainless unless it was from the trail of course

LOL. Yeah, the thing is so damn thick, nothing could hurt it. No problems with the skid itself - fit like a glove. My guess is due to the weight it gets dropped rather heavily every chance they get :)
I have pics on the camera, I just haven't had time to post them, but will.
