I like the color! Does anyone know what it's called?

They produced the "Heritage" Defenders I think in 2000. Check this one out. LOVE the color. Would love it in a soft top as a second Rover to leave bone stock as a convertible.

IMO the Heritage Defenders are very poseur.

If they really wanted to be heritage they would have made the roofs and wheels the traditional LR color of the 50's, 60's and 70's - Limestone (wheels always matched roof, except for Fire Tenders, which were Red wheels and red bodies).

The grill is traditionally galvanized steel too (plastic on the SIII), not stainless stamped metal.

Yeah, it's a marketing ploy, the pastel green one that Wicks posted reminds me of my old '70 109 SW I had for several years, and makes me a bit nostalgic.

In the old days the series LR's were all about form following function. Now it seems that it's the complete opposite.

Actually my pastel 69 IIA shipped with the white roof, and side panels as well. They should have done the heritage that way. Clearly it isn't perfect, but the galvanized bumper, the color, etc., look great, legacy wise. I'd swap the wheels for some steelies painted to match the roof and perhaps replace the painted eyebrows.

I've never understood why LR has abandoned the colors and overall look that uniquely identified the brand. The new Rovers are offered almost only in contemporary metallics, not classic shades that endure for years.

In ten years the brand will likely regret losing its distinction as SUVs are looked back upon like vans from the 1970's. The new L3 is a case in point, and to a large extent the Range Rover as well. The designs will not age well, but need constant revision every few years.

I think that's their plan. Kinda like why software companies name their software with a version number. Designed for self-extinction and make the consumer feel to have a need to upgrade.

They've already seen that having the same design year after year didn't attract potential new buyers so hence the design change.

Robert, couldn't agree more. This is why my favorite color is the Arles (from late models here). I have a metallic (Willow), but it isn't overcooked, and is based on a great unique shade.

Wish they'd make them in old colors to order.

Guys, the other trucks are all just offspring of the Defender anyway. As long as it doesn't get mussed up, we're in good shape.

They were a limited run of 300, availible in two colours and 90 and 110's
The light one is atlantic green

Thank you for the link to the pictures of the Heritage edition. Unfortunately they were never sold in South Africa. I am contemplating building my own. I suppose the best place to start is a good used 1999 or 2000 Defender 90 Td5. I am currently looking for one. The most difficult part will be to find "that" grille and the Ivory dials! I will probably have to import them from the U.K.
