Lockable Storage in D-90

I love to mountain bike and plan to do some windsurfing soon, but my first mountain bike trip was a bit unnerving when I had to leave about $500 of bike gear in a duffle bag in the back of my topless D-90 while I rode away for about an hour. I saw a few products from Tuffy, but they seem to fit on the wheel well and are higher than the body of the truck (this could limit a tonnou (sp?) cover for the back. The Tuffy speaker storage boxes also seem to be limited in storage capacity. Any suggestions? An ideal solution to me would be something like a foldable forward faceing rear seat (folded up) with a large lockbox in the bed. Or maybe just a large lockable truck without a rear seat that takes advantage of the bed. Better yet, a storage box that can be inserted in and out of the bed but secured for day outings. Any ideas?

You need to check out the storage boxes that Troy makes. They are great! They fit flush to the bed sides and make use of the space. There is a write up in the custom mods section.

I use my two rear seats in the back so I needed storage for half the space. Bought a Craftsman toolbox (black, metal) and it just fits between the seatbelt mount and the pillar. $15 and good enough.

I would like to use up wasted space between the body but I can't see paying $170 for a metal box! Hopefully I can weld up a pair myself.

Notice the box on the driver side wheel well. That is a Troy Smith "special". I'm considering putting a second one on the passenger side.

You might consider putting in the rear drawer as well. It would be very easy to fabricate nwe mounts for your rear seat to sit above the rear drawer system and tie into the roll cage. This is something I've been thinking about in order to get back my rear seating with the drawer.

Yes - I've tried that before and I tried it again two days ago and still no response. Since I like to look at the brighter side of things, I have convinced myself that he must be on a long wilderness trip in his Rover and I hope to hear from him when he gets back. Otherwise, he just doesn't want to sell the boxes anymore.

I just purchased a pelican case that I plan on locking (small keylocks), then taking a bike lock and attaching to my rollbar, just behind the seat. It's not high-security, but enough to keep honest people honest. And it is waterproof...and portable/rolling. Cool for driving the laptop here and there...

FYI... I just heard from Troy and he is experiencing temporary account problems that are effecting his ability to receive emails and participate here on the forum. I am working with him on resolving the problem and he should be back in the swing of things here, hopefully later today.
