My weekend project began yesterday with some steering mods. I got ride of the factory tie rod and made a new one with 1.5 inch dom tubing, .250 wall. I used 1 ton tie rods and retappered the holes to fit the MUCH larger tie rod end.

Also on the agenda was installing a new winch. A buddy of mine had a Husky 10 he wasn't going to use so I bought it off of him in July and haven't had time to get it on yet. I pulled it out of the box and started the process of mounting this monster on my bumper...

Nice mod on the steering. That's the first time I've seen that done on a coiler.

I used the same stuff, 1 ton Tie Rod ends and 1.5" 1/4 wall tubing, on my 109 for both the drag link and tie rod, but that was in conjunction with making my own hi steer set up on my Salisbury front axle.

What is the diameter of the bolt on the 1 ton TRE?? What did you drill up to on the knuckle (is it tapered)?

Do you think that this may weaken the knuckle attachment itself, ie instead of rod failing you break the knuckle at the attachment??

I want to do similar but using Heim joints but would need to drill up to 3/4"......are you drilling to 3/4"??
