rear door folding table

Just finished and I love it. 12" deep, made of 1/2" marine Starboard. Held up by a marine cabinet rotating latch. Hinged by stainless piano hinge. suspended by 2 stainless braided and sleeved cables that I salvaged from a dog yard chain. I'm going to add a reading light and fire extinguisher to it.

FYI. Also mounted at a slight angle since the door is not level on full open. I used a level to confirm. Mounted hight is just about right for desk height with a camp chair.

If your door doesn't stay open you may have a worn out door check. Once the wheel passes the little bar it should stay in that position, if it doesn't, the bar may be worn out. I think you can buy them pretty cheap from the dealer, otherwise someone else here just shoved a penny between the door and the bar to create more pressure. Check the tech articles under "Keep that door open".

Thanks Andrew, I know how to fix it, it is just one of those things that I just get pleasure out of watching the wife try to hold it open while trying to remove something out of the back. That is just wrong isn't it.

Mark -- can you post some detailed photos of how you constructed the table? As I have the panel on its way, I"m starting to consider how to configure it. I'd like to figure out how to get a table, fire extinguisher and first aid kit onto it eventually.

Neat table. I am planning something similar except with a coleman cook top stove. Open the door, hinge the stove down, hook up the propane and cook some burgers!! have some good times.

I was seriously considering the mounted stove thing, but when I was vetting the idea, I got inside the jump seat, closed the door, and realized that the stove stuck out to far for a passenger in the rear jump seat. since having 2 jump seats on one side of my rear area was a requirement, I decided to go with the table. I can put a stove on the table, or use the table as an field desk. more multipurpose that way. Plus, if you ever have anything big and heavy in the back, unless it's well secured, that stove is going to take a beating.
