I was wondering if anyone knew of problems with 2000 Range Rovers. I was at my local dealer this morning dropping off my Disco 2, and saw a used one with 30K miles. Price seemed good, I have no idea of the quirks a Range Rover might have.
Thanks,
Mark

I think their only problems were chronic overheating and awful initial reliability stats.
Actually, i'm not speaking from experience, but P38 rangies are much maligned by the british motoring press, and those two issues are usually cited as justification for the disdain.

The air bags in the suspension tend to fail but for $1000 http://www.atlanticbritish.com/ProductList.asp?Category=SUSPENSION+%26+STEERING&Vehicle=R4&PerPage=1&ListType=DETAIL&PartNumber=9520LBHD
you can get rid of the whole system and install better springs. I would not hesitate to pick up a 2000 low mile RR. I think they are great vehicles.
As a little side bar, all the mechanics at my local dealer have been buying them for their own use. 4 years old and selling for less that 1/2 of what they were new.

99 RR and up is the way to go. Dave is right the only problem with the RR is the air suspension. I had a 97 HSE and my front air bags lost the air while I was offroading, discounted the battery and everything started to work, took to the dealer and they said everything is fine :?
I honestly haven't seen any air suspension problem with 00+ RR as I have a couple of Friends with 00 RR with over 100K miles and the air bags are still good.

Thanks for the help. I had a chance to see the inside of the 2000, and it was pretty beat up, so I passed on it. The dealer also has a 2001, with about the same mileage for a few grand more. This one is in perfect shape, in and out. Just making sure I am ready to spend 35K plus ona car with 35K miles. we end up putting about 15k miles on it a year.
BTW...1999 Series 2 disco, excellent shape inside and out with 62k miles on it....what do you guys think it is worth. I have looked up the web based pricing, but need real world opinions. The dealer will not give me much for a trade in, so I want to sell it privately.

What trim is your Disco? It really depends on that plus options. I will assume it's SE with some options which you should be able to get $13-$15K depending on where the buyer is from. I'm guessing the dealer offered you $9-$10K right?

Sorry, yes SE, it was the demo model, bougth it with 1800 miles on it, pretty much loaded. They offered $10,800. I figured I could get $13-$15K also.

Porous block issues in the 4.6 P38s. Make sure to get a warranty as there are, like all other rovers, some snivelling issues like window seals leaking and interior trim breaking.
