Yes, it is that time of year again.

This year Bruce asked if we could install a web forum to better organize,
discuss and post photos. This has been installed.

If anyone from Maine is going to the romp, and could bring some parts from ECR to the romp, please let me know. It should be 2 half doors and few odds and ends.

thanks,

No problem, leave the rig and trailer at the Holiday Inn. They have a huge rear lot that lots of people leave their tow rigs in.
You join our little caravan if you keep it to 65 Justin.

No. Problem is, you could be running 37's and have issues. Just depends on the trail, the conditions of the trail, etc. Unless you want to break trail, you should do fine. The only drawback to the deep snow is the amount of waiting you may do while the trucks in the front break trail. But a number of folks are organizing to get out there Friday and open things up.

http://www.jamilabbasy.com/galleries/off-road/winter_romp_2007/HTML/img_7493_std_std.jpgThis is very true! The snow is just a minor inconvenience. The real problem is fitting in time to eat your left overs from the doggy bag you took away from Big G's the first day

Jimmy - great pics - I need to look into a hosting site like that...

Here's a link to my pics. http://s120.photobucket.com/albums/o197/pmd5/Winter%20Romp%202009/

We ran in a small group (3) Friday night and Saturday morning - then meet up w/ the NJ/NY guys on Saturday afternoon/night.

We broke a lot of trail on Friday night and Saturday morning - including the water hole Friday night.
Saturday night was a winch fest at the swamp.

Not much carnage - Ron tore a brake line and had a flat on the way home - he can explain.
Weather was great.

Paul, Ron wanted me to call when we got to the trails on Saturday but i wasn't getting service on my phone all day. We must have been crossing paths all day, glad you had a great time.
Sunday my throw out bearing got stuck in and the clutch was slipping bad. Took it back to Bruces and took the slave cylinder out and couldn't move the arm. Was hoping to release it and just drive home grating the gears, it is solid. Going back Saturday to trailer it home. What a dickhead i trailered it last year and had nothing wrong.

What a good time. We had a good time with Ron and Paul in the swamp. Took us about 4 hours to go half a mile.

Eric was leading us through the swamp when his winch line broke (not good for the leader). We tried to get him out with the hi-lift, shovels, logs, pushing, but nothing worked. So we tied the winch line in a knot through the fairlead and wound it up on itself. that worked and we got another 10 feet. it was like this the whole way up the swamp.

The next morning the water, mud and everything else froze my rear wheels to the axle. I was driving around the parking lot with my rear wheels locked up! it looked so bizarre.

Will post photos and video soon.

Here's two pictures of Eric's winch line - first one is showing the knot and the second showing it breaking the second time.

what kind of knot is that you guys tried?? It doesn't look like the double figure 8 I assume you should have used... I'm guessing it put a stress point on the line resulting in the second break. Did you end up blocking it to cut the stress down?

Sounds like you guys had a fun time anyway ;-)

can't remember the first couple of knots. but then we did a double 8 inside the fairlead to the winch and wraped the line over the 8 once or twice. held it down nice and worked the rest of the 10 or so winch times after that. :)
