I have a nice line on a used warn winch. Questions
1. will it mount to a stock bumper from a 1994 D-90?
2. if not, what is needed (ARB replacement bumper)?
3. if parts / pieces required, ball park costs?
4. what is a fair price for a used xd9000i (really minimal usage)?
5. any input on required accessories (thought that would open
debate up a bit)?

Call Warn. They may have the mounting plate for a stock bumper. Mine came factory installed.

As for accessories, you should get the remote and fairlead. A cover would be nice as well and check the full length of the wire rope.

$400 tops on the winch. That is an older design, may or may not have the newer Bosch motor, and the wire cannot be trusted. That is not to say that wire rope cannot be trusted in general, but since you do not know how it was treated, you should replace it.

If you want a nice winch bumper call Ship's Mechanical Service in Portland. 503-252-5566 (I think). Doug makes a beefy stock-looking bumper that your winch will bolt on easily to.

Get a full-on recovery kit (shackles, snatchblock, tree saver strap, gloves, etc...) for sure. Also, get Burke's 'Getting Unstuck' DVD to give you some ideas how to use it.

The stock '94 bumper is WORTHLESS for mounting a winch to. Toss it.

If you like the extra protection of the ARB then it's a good choice. I like them, but am a bit biased.

I can tell you that I saw with my own eyes a D90 hit a full grown mule deer (doe) at 65mph and it didn't damage the front end of the D90 at all.

That's when I decided that ARB bumpers were honest front end protection. They became a client much after that.

ARB winch bumper indeed a great bumper. However, you can not fit the XD9000I w/o modifying the bumper. There is a thread about the ARB and XD9000i.
In my opinion if you are going spend the money on a new bumper go with RockWare, everyone that has it loves it.

Don't forget if you put a new heavy bumper on and a big heavy winch up front you may need to upgrade your springs, to get an idea how far it will sink get a couple friends to stand on your front bumper. One if you are just adding a winch, 2 for a new HD bumper and a winch.

thanks guys. I know what to do. However, at this time...
It ain't going to happen. Just lost a job - the money to cover this, and the guy selling will not go below $650. w/out a remote.

He was asking WAY too much. The remote is $50 on it's own. Bummer about the job, but a good thing you didn't buy the winch *then* lose your job.
