The other day, I power washed the underside of the defender to try and get the road salt off and ever since then, my power steering box has been leaking fluid. It seems to be leaking where the steering arm connects to the box. Could this be fixed with a new seal kit? If so, how easy is it. (I'm not very mechanically inclined but am trying)(( Just replaced the fuel filter today and am very pleased with my work.))
Also, are any special tools needed. I do have the workshop manual from RN for starters.

One more thing, In the past 10 days, I have added two containers of Lucas power steering stop leak and about a quart of PS fluid but haven't seen much change.

Buy a meridian reman. The seal is a temp fix as meridian permantly fixes the problem by replacing the bush that wears and causes leaks with a bearing.

I sold a lot of these, and none came back. I, on the other hand, live with a leaking box. YMMV

What is a meridian reman and where would I find one of these?

I posted the website a couple days ago. Search for steering box leaking.

They used to be $300 or so, but Meridian had issues with getting enough cores. Someone needs to call over and see if they still sell them. I bet mike at LR westchester would stock them if meridian would sell them.

Cool that's not bad at all. If anyone finds out if they're still available let us know :). I'm in no rush just would be nice to know there's a good fix out there.

Thanks for the help guys. I've talked to meridian and their price is $295 plus $160 core charge.
Looks like this is the way I'm going.

I put a Meridian rebuild in the 110 over two years ago. Still leak free and cheaper than OEM (which would probably be leaking by now :))

I guess I should break down and order one for the LWB. It has been leaking for 6 years.

Eric ~ If you replace it yourself, please take pity on those of us who will have to do it in the near future and post the steps/pictures...

Do any of you have a source for the power steering pump?

Put on a Chevy one NAPA # 20874 for an '88+ S10 4 cyl $100 and way better pressure than the OEM Rover

Is that right. might have to pick one up.The output flange is straight instead of the bend like on a Rover so you may have to shorten or lengthen your return line but it is not a difficult job.. once you get the hub off your old pump. Have a good puller onhand.
