I saw it in person, it has some really big axles, the way they mounted the winches sux, you would never be able to respool them due to how close the drum is to the body.

Concepts are usually great, but it's the watered-down versions that make it to market, and most of those can be a let down.

Have you guys seen the new stretched Wrangler? Now has a 100 inch wheel base. It blows because Jeep is going the right direction as LR is dying. That is hard for me to admit. All we really had on them is suspension and wheel-base. Now just suspension. :(

In my opinion the suspension of a Defender as a system is one of the best from the factory ever created. The front needs some work but can be made into a an amazing system with a small tweak and the rear is just plain sweet. The Wrangler suspension is just junky. The contact pressure is uneven, the thing unloads poorly and the links bind. Thats why the suspension systems like the Low COG kit and Fab Tech long arm systems effectively change the link placement entirely. Still doesn't work well. People who drive bolted up Wranglers are mildly hated by many on the trails. It's just the know-nothing fad right now. But, if they come out with a Rubicon 100 inch wheel base model, it would destroy a stock Defender.

blows especially as Land rover did make some defender 100s, but I think the Discovery killed it. It's the ideal size.

If the Rescue just keeps the wheelbase, the 3/4 or 1-ton running gear, and that Cummins 600, regardless of what else gets watered down, I may have to sell the pick-up and become a proud new owner of a Jeep.....:grin .... at least as a tow rig.

Jeep may not build this truck, but I like the new stretched wheelbase Wrangler. Defenders have more, though, then suspension. Having owned both, I think the Jeep is like a typical modern car, made to last 5 to 10 years tops. The imagery it evokes is like a stage set or costume, its all pretend. A LR drives and feels like real parts are used.

That is, the Land Rovers we have been accustomed to, not the new ones. Who here has any interest in owning a Freelander for the next twenty years?
