Safety precautions for ignition coil maintenance

I want convert my ignition coil from spade connectors to ring connectors. The spades keep falling off at the most inopportune times. What safety precautions do I need to take? Can I discharge the coil completely?

For a standard ignition coil I've never taken any special precautions other than disconnecting the battery ground. Haven't gotten a shock in the 40 years I've been messing with them.
