Was driving along yesterday when I began smelling burnt oil. When I realized it was my rig, I pulled over immediately and saw several quarts, in total, on the ground where I stopped. A major rupture of some sort on the pass. side of the engine. My wife came by and pulled me to a DIY carwash and I cleaned as much oil as I could but cant see where it could be coming from. Any ideas? The only other thing I can think to do is pour more oil in the engine and start it up to find the leak. A very messy proposition. There's not a drop on the dipstick. Its all gone. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I don't drive it that much. A friendly passerby stopped and let me use his phone and said that the same thing happened to his truck and it turned out to be an oil sender unit. Could it be?

Oil cooler line. Becoming all too frequent. Who's going to start making braided stainless lines??

Its definitely the oil cooler line(s) - you're lucky the truck didnt burn up. I've still got smoke stains under my hood from when mine let go.

Geoge at RDS has a good price on orginals, but I'd I had to do it again I'd take the old hoses to Aeroquip and have them rebuilt to a higher spec.
