it would really be nice not to have the IMG's pop up in a seperate window.

Personally I really like the way it is. I hate when threads get so long because all the full size pictures take up so much space. It would be nice if we enlarged the size limits a little, say 1024 instead of 800.

Robert... I'm sorry but at this time I still am not entertaining the option to enable the IMG code use on the forum. The disadvantages still outnumber the advantages however, that doesnt mean that the IMG code wont be enabled down the road.
Andrew, thank you for your suggestion. I have just expanded the dimensional size limitations to 1024.

Yeah, we'll still have to resize, but at least it's bigger & I knew Chris didn't want to host all of our full size images because it came up in another thread.

Actually hosting here is not the problem... the proble is using the IMG tag which is hot-linking, usually to some other site. bad because to load depends on the outside sites performance and availability or the content

Well, in that case, the larger the better! Thanks for making them 1024 though, I often like to look at details of how others have done things on here and 800 is just too small sometimes to see the smaller details.

Any chance of turning them on? What are the cons (except for those on dialup :grin )
-Jeff
Pretty much no chance of getting them turned on globally here. I may turn them on at some point for a section like the Misc chit chat section but not for the other sections. The cons are that the IMG tag hot-links to content, usually out on some other site which then depends on the outside sites performance and availability of the content to load here. If there is a problem there, it can cause problems here.
Also its harder to control the size of the content hot-linked, which again, if you load up a post or thread with lots of hot-linked content, it tanks the load time for threads and can blow the formatting. If we have sections of info threads loaded with hotlinked pics and those pictures get removed/deleted or even just moved to a new folder/section at the source, we have threads here with little red X's all over the place. A perfect example of this is E/N sites that have forums that people posts pictures and animated GIFs in and you can see just how bad the load times are for those threads, and see how pretty a page full of red Xs looks.
Lastly pretty much all content/attachments posted, submitted, contributed, etc to the site, is retained here on the site's server and when submitted, becomes property of the site. This avoids hate mail from other sites crying that we are using their content blah blah

Actually I think the current max size is ok, but what we need is a module to auto resize down to that size and let people upload larger images (because the real problem for most people is resizing).

That and we know the content will still be here X years down the road. Stuff you link to outside of the sitre can move or get deleted.
