I need the speed limiter gone, NOW. 94 D90
Please tell me how. I am constantly hitting it. It is really annoying.
Thanks

How fast are you going? If it is due to bigger tires and regearing then I would say you need to change the little gear in the T-case that is connected to the speedo cable. The speed sensor is required for the ECM, so no speed sensor = nogo for you rover V8. I'm not sure you but you may be able to reprogram the ECU.

89mph
I wish to go faster. That is like average speed on the turnpike. BMW has me spoiled.

My understanding is the the cold start disco chip removes the limiter. Granted, I never hit it before, so I have no first hand experience.

I've hit it trying to catch up to Trevor with his 4.6 Disco. And a few other times too. Mike where you in neutral??

I saved this email from Doug Aitken on the D90 yahoo group because I thought I'd want to get this chip after I regeared (someday):
"I finally got round to swapping out my EPROM for the "Cold start" EPROM for a 3.9 ('94, '95) Disco to get rid of the annoying speed limiter which kicked in at just over 70 mph with my 4.10 R&P......
It could be purely psychological, but it seems like the engine runs much smoother and pulls better throughout the rev range (as well as the removal of the "brick wall"!).
Anyone else who has done this mod notice the same thing?
BTW: The part number has changed on this item: used to be PRM 3360A: it is
now PRM 3652.
Doug A"
Supposedly, it only costs like $17 dollars, and that's from the dealer. Be sure you don't get the 4.0 chip, it's for GEMS and is more expensive (and won't work!)
Good luck

Another note on this... I've been with other Defenders that have no speed limiter to speak of, particularly my buddy's '94... But I hit the speed limiter on my '95 anytime I get over about 86 MPH (which hasn't happened once since the swampers went on). Seems weird that some have it and others don't.

BTW my 90 is a CND (Canadian) so that may be why it does not have the limiter.
