Gas Gauge

Hey all,

I am having a problem with my gas gauge. It is working fine, or so it seems untill I get into the last 1/3 of the tank. The the needle swings wildy, especially when I am going around corners.
I am guessing it is lose in there, and kinda floating around.
Any suggestions?

I am also going home to South Africa soon, and will be looking to bring some stuff back for my D90. I am going to get some prices and part lists, to see if anyone else wants in. Would anyone be interested in going in on a container of parts?
Some of the stuff in South Africa is very cheap.
I got a really nice recovery kit for around $80. Similar sells for $250 here. There are many other parts too, so I will keep you posted.

Be careful with the recovery items, make sure that they are ANSI spec or certified.

My gas guage does the same thing. I don't know of any fix....

Keith, your gauge is working. Both of my D90's did the same thing. I can say that the gauge in my '95 worked better than the '97 I have now. It was more accurate and easier to read.

I think it is just a common thing. You just have to be careful when i gets close or touching the red/orange. Mine will cut out on me.

I keep track of my gas, but it certainly bothers me, when it swings below the red on a right turn.
I don't mind so much the running out of gas, but I do mind the $80 it costs for Landrover to reset the "CHECK ENGINE" light when the O2 sensor thinks you ran out of gas.

Keith, my gauge does the same thing, I just check it when I'm stopped and I fill up when ever the trip odometer reads over 150 miles, then I reset it when I fill up, it's kinda a pain but what else can you do?

Quoted from the FAQ (and it has worked for me several times):

"The Check Engine light can be reset (assuming you have fixed the problem that caused it to illuminate in the first place) by disconnecting the lead from the display unit while the ignition is switched on. There is a 5 pin (or so) connector in the lead from the display. Then switch the ignition off and wait for the main relay to drop out. Recoonect the lead and evrytjing should be fine. Of course this didn't work for me either so what I did was disconnect the battery for about 30 seconds while the lead was disconnected and that fixed it."

I have reset my check engine light serveral times when I was having 02 sensor problems using both the display lead method as well as disconnecting the battery. The display box will also show you the code being thrown (which is how I knew it was the 02 sensor!). It's under the passenger seat, for those who don't know....
