THE SEAL (s) ON THE
D RIVESHAFT U-JOINTS ARE LETTING GREASE SLIP BY -----Original Message---
This is the message that the dealship put on my Defender after it was serviced. Anybody know if this is a big deal? Can I fix it myself? I am a so so mechanic. I know where the driveshaft is.

WHAT! :pissed
When you fill U-joints you have to force out the old grease with new grease! This is done by forcing the grease through the seals! What a load of CRAP! If your U-Joints start going bad you will feel it. Then buy some from George at Rovers Down South and replace them yourself, they are easy to do. If you go to the dealer they will charge over $100 per U-Joint + installation costs. My friend just had all the UJs replace at the dealer on his Disco and it cost $1000.

It probably took those twats at the dealer around 8 hours to change out 4 joints.
I guess for a thousand bucks they at least cleaned the truck for him!:lol

me:rifle:? dealership. Now you know why I want a Machine Gun mounted on the top of my 90. Ya they cleaned it and he still had vibrations, later he found out they were from a bad motor mount.
If you need more info on changing your UJs let me know,

Ah, pressing in new uj's. A baptism of fire for a virgin Land Rover mechanic.
Get yourself a pack of bandaids for your poor knuckles Darrin;)
Seriously, it's not that bad as long as you've got a Vice. You'll also need a 9/16 ring spanner or even better a narrow long reach socket plus some circlip pliers. Oh & a big f****in hammer:ohmy

Fuck the dealerships.....There not worth a damn....Just trying to rip people off....The way I do it, is to learn how to do everything myself so I don't have to take it to those bastards....
