Dynamat

For those of you using dynamat for sound deading:
I would like to put down some dynamat however I do not want to glue or use adhesive. I like the ability to remove all carpeting and clean it out. I think if the dynamat was glued to the panels, it would made cleaning it out a real pain. any thoughts???

You could always lay it down but not peal the film that covers the tape. If this is your goal though this may not be the stuff for you. I have it in both of my trucks but I use it in places that wont get wet or dirty. In my 90 it is in my doors, behind the kick panels and under the load mat in the back which i don't remove. I say use it in doors and use a souond deadening rubber mat on the floors if you are worried about removal

I went the same route as Barry did. If you have access to a pick your parts, you can pull the sound deadening mats out of a disco or classic (and cut to fit) and put it underneath your load space in the back and floor mats. It is a fabric foam with a rubber backing. Also for under the seat area, you can buy the TD5 seat box cover from rovers north which will help deaden the sound from the drive train.

Just installed dynamat in my 95sw and cant believe the difference even with the tdi. So much quieter then my ST. I will be doing my rear tub on the ST asap..

bonnet, rear tub, seat box, floor, bulkhead and doors. My ST has the bulkhead and doors done but I think the bonnet and rear tub helped a lot

Seems this has become the summer of trying to cool the Defender down. I wish someone would hurry up and buy this thing.

Pull up your floor boards clean the panels and use peel and stick roofing material on the underside. It has similar sound deadening capability and greater R-value so it shields heat better than the dynamat. Not to mention it is cheap as chips especially when compared to the dynamat.

S-PI have seen this done before, with OK results, except the interior of the vehicle smells like a tar pit on a hit day. Your results may vary.

I didnt use Dynamat but used Peel and Seel, 100sq feet for about $90. I did my roof, hood, all floors, bulkhead, seat boxes and transmission tunnel cover, oh, doors too. HUGE change in noise and heat transfer. I still had a bunch left ovr for other projects. Dynamat will do the same thing for you.

I drove to Death Valley last week in temps around 100. The roof on the inside was always cool to touch with the Peel and Seel. I could also listen to the radio and carry on a conversation with those sitting in the back seat whithout yelling. So much better :)

Went to the junk yard and pulled from the full size Ford or Chevy vans the aluminum with fiberglass backed engine cowling cover. As it is very plyable, I stuck it above the tranny and zip tied it in place. Works great and cheap at both heat and noise reduction. Wrapped the Y pipe after the cats and that helped too on heat.

I bought mine at Burbank Hardware a few years back for just under $90. This is the cheapest I have seen it online.
