Bfg Krawler...

Just wondering if anyone has fitted these or has any opinions/experience with this tire. I heard that it was originally created just for rock crawling, but the reviews have said that this tire will go through anything. Plus it looks 'meatier' than any other tire I've seen.

35's & 37's only though... don't know if I could fit 35's with an OME shocks & springs... that's too big for my needs anyway. I wish they made a smaller size, I'd get them in a heartbeat. I wonder if they ever will...

Anyway.. just thought I'd open up a can of worms.

And it's open :) They are more hype than anything else. I have been able to drive a TJ with them, and the same TJ without (this months Tera LCG writeup in Petersens). They make a special compound for the comp boys, much softer. The ones you would have access to will not be as good. If BFG was not a huge sponsor of Calrock, people would not run them. I would take my MT/R's any day, especially when you consider the price of the Krawlers. It's just a fad.

The price is a bit high... I hear what you're saying... I just haven't seen too much talk about them on this board so I was wondering what everyone thought. Good looking tire though...lol.

I'm going with GoodYear MTR's for my next tire... just haven't figured out the size yet.

Heresay (but 1st person heresay from a couple of top CalRoc guys) ... I've heard pretty good things about them in the mud and dirt. All things being equal, based on what I've seen at the comps, the Krawler IS a better rock tire ... especially the red label ones that Dave mentioned. I'd like to throw a set on my project, but its hard to justify that cost when the MTR is so good (based off my own experience).

And, we're talking recreational rigs here. A MTR is the best tire most of us would ever need. I've only ever heard of one sidewall ripping out (my own):grin... And, I've run a set of 35s and a set of the 37R17s pretty ragged on rocks, dirt, mud ... not to mention the highway (good luck running a Krawler on a DD). The same can't be said for the couple of sets of BFGs i've cut up ... the last set of which I had to toss b/c after ~5 off-road trips, they'd hardly hold air because of all the holes.:angry

All that said, one would have a hard time fitting the 35" krawler on a D90 anyhow because of the 13.5" width. There's going to be a lot more rubbing than an equivalent 35" MTR.

Yeah, it's a good tire but much too large for me.
I'm going with the MTR's... pretty soon...

I'm thinking I need a better spare tire carrier, I like the MANTEC... because I'm sure the GoodYears are going to be a bit heavier than my BFG that is on there now and I'm already getting a little vibration, a lot on the highway.

Hmm... Does anyone know WHERE I can buy a MANTEC Spare Wheel Carrier for the best price shipped in the US ???
