View Full Version : Coveted Heritage Grill

I have a friend that is in Germany on business and out of curiosity I asked if he would go on one of my idiotic land rover part hunts for the Heritage grill. He went into a dealer who said they had a bunch left over. I am getting one but wanted to know if anyone else wants one. I think they have 5 or 6 in stock and will be between 350 and 400 bucks.
Now if I could get someone to go to Brazil for the rear rubber mat.

If Tomaco bought one speaks highly of the grill. He is on a budget build and would not put money out like that unless there is some real appeal. My take on it anyway.

Doug shot you an email. I think they are now all accounted for pending payments.
Few things. One guy sent me some questions and was all pumped but maybe that wasn't a confirmation. I never got a check and he no longer responds to PMs. (Fairly infrequent poster) Another guy though I am going to say was a bit douchey. I am not going to out him but I will quote him. I waited to mail everyones until I had most of the payments to save myself the going back and forth. When I asked him where his was, his response was "No, I didn't got back Friday from Europe and forgot about it actually.... Do you have anyone else that wants it? If not, I'll buy it but low on priorities now."
I really don't care but if you say you want something then step up. I could have nto wasted the time and someone else could have gotten it. I am noticing this with people who are new posters more than anything. I know there are poeple who are infrequent posters and are always on but just commenting on these few people. I was actually going to mail them all before I got the checks but hesitated and now am kind of glad I did.

Well, the grill arrived while I was in NC for the long weekend. Even though the packaging (thanks for the decorations, Barry, haha) said DO NOT BEND all over it, they definitely bent it vertically...bastards. The bend created two super-weak points in the grill, but I think once it's screwed in flat you won't really be able to tell, except for the two kinks.

Finally got this thing installed tonight before this hail storm that's supposed to hit. I took some before and after pics for anyone still thinking of getting one. Did anyone else who installed one have this issue of the grill sticking out from the top? There's obviously no screws up there, so I was thinking of running a zip tie behind the Land Rover badge or something like that. It's probably because of my A/C, but just figured I'd see if anyone else had this issue.
Specops, what does yours look like at the top?

Cheap? I'll tell you what looks cheap.
"ALL THE PLASTIC CRAP"
I think the Heritage Grill is a damn sight better than any of the other sheet metal grills out there that come with oval or other odd-shaped holes that bear no resemblance to any aspect or feature in the entire history of Land Rover design. One the Heritage Grill, the square openings and the ratio of open area to mesh thickness is much closer to the old series grill than any other non-standard defender grill I have seen. The SS one I sold to Lane was pretty good in that respect as well, but I didn't like it for other reasons. The best case scenario would be a Stage One grill, but those are rarer than rocking horse shit so aren't really an option.
The plastic grills looks like bloody shite when they are faded and cracked and hanging off the front of the truck. That won't happen with a metal grill. Though I wish the Heritage grill was steel so that I could get it hot dipped.
You sure have some interesting views given that you have been driving around in the Partridge Family bus for a few years now...

July 30th, 2010, 08:05 AM
If anyone might be interested as an alternative I'm working on doing an all aluminum version of the stock-looking grille, obviously it'll look significantly better and one of the design requirements is that it both be able to take a significant rock hit and have the bars un-boltable so that they can be replaced if damaged, and removed if you're say installing a winch that needs clearance, as well as probably options for the 90mm Hella aux-lighting right in the grille similar to how the SVX has them (I think it's the SVX).

I have the yellow one on manhattan ave and 1st street. The grill would look great and I could pick it up at lunch.
Which one do you have?

Ha I know you. I stopped when you were washing it. I was in a BMW but I have the blue one and the 110. I drive by daily. Let me see if I get the final payment.

That's hilarious. I remember that! I would love to see your 110 one of these days. Can I check out the grill later today?

I live on Monterey so you can see the 110 anytime. I don't have the grills in my hand right now but Matt who is also on your street (white SW) has one from me if you want to see it

You beat me to the punch!
Here is my heritage grill with my new Equipe bumper.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I will keep it on the truck. You really can't see the grill to much with my lights mounted and the winch in place. If I take it off I will put it up for sale on here if Barry is not in the middle of filling orders.

The new bumper looks awesome Clarence! Grill looks good too, but I see your point.

Yeah you cant see the grill at all. I think Gustavo moved the badge to the side which would look cool

Thanks! I've been really looking forward to getting it mounted.

I didn't realize that the lights and winch would obscure the grill so much. I might try moving the badge and see how it looks.

Decided not to keep the Heritage Grill on my truck. Just couldn't see enough of it for me to be happy with it. My badge is hidden to much, blah, blah , blah.
Its sad because it looks so much better then the pos I had on there before. But in any event it is up for sale. Only had it on my truck for about 100 miles so it is in pristine shape.
330 plus shipping if anyone is interested.
